Prestige Fights is set to take the New Orleans MMA world by storm on February 19th, 2011 at the Alario Center at its event known as Bayou Brawl 2. Known for putting on some of the most compelling matchups in the local MMA scene the Bayou Brawl 2 will not disappoint.
A look at a few of the serious fights on this card and its clear that this is one event that will give just about every MMA fan what they are looking for in terms of live, exciting action. The top of the Bayou Brawl 2 card is actually 155 pound professional tournament featuring four of the hottest up and coming athletes in the South. The four competators are divided into two brackets.
Bracket 1: O’Shaugnessy (3-1) vs. Lyons (4-1)
These include Bellator veteran Scott O’Shaugnessy, who trains locally with Rich Clementi in Mandeville at the Gladiators Academy. O’Shaugnessy, whose last win was against a very tough Gabe Wood on Bellator in New Orleans has tricky submission game. O’Shaugnessy will face Austin Lyons, of Memphis, the current Empire Fighting Championships belt holder at 155 pounds who is well-rounded in both striking and grappling.
Bracket 2: Mike Byrnes (3-2) vs. Taylor Callens (2-0)
Taylor Callens won his spot on the card after impressing Prestige Fights Matchmaker Mitchell Klein with a knock-out via spinning elbow at the Empire Fighting Championships last month. Callens, like Lyons comes from a respected team in the Memphis area and is set to face Byrnes, who trains with former UFC veteran Din Thomas in Florida. Mike Yanez, a black belt in BJJ from Florida recently remarked to the examiner that Byrnes is a “very tough fighter.”
The winner from each othe brackets will be set to face off later this year for the Prestige Fights 155 pound professional title in a five round match. The stakes are high given that this tournament may well establish the next big athlete from the South in the lightweight division. “We believe that this tournament style format is going to bring more excitement to the event,” said promoter Carlos Mena. “These guys are four of the toughest guys around.”
Amateur Titles on the line at Prestige Fights 2 include:
145 pound Amateur Title Zach Cothren (5-0) vs. Josh Davila (7-2)
This is a serious between two of the best in this division. Cothren, of POWER MMA is earning a reputation as a submission fighter will face “his toughest fight ever,” According to aspiring actor, fighter, and commentator Marcus Dempsey, “Zach is developing a higher level squeeze.” Davila, a strong kickboxer from Russell Jones kickboxing academy has had a string of wins against tough opponents.
Light Heavyweight Amateur Belt Brian Lymuel (6-0) vs. Henry Mitchell (6-0)
This is a matchup between two big, strong fighters who have each gone on win streaks show after show. Mitchell, who trains at Ancona’s martial arts in Metairie will face Lymeul, who trains with Gladiators gym and Mandeville. Both of these guys will be looking to make a point to the larger MMA world that they should be given the crown jewel of the lightweight division in New Orleans.
