South Korea’s Kia Motors Corporation’s compact 2.4-liter Sportage CUV was honored at the 2011 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit yesterday. In a presentation sponsored by Bridgestone Tire and judged by ICOTY, the Kia Sportage was acclaimed “International Truck of the Year” by Road & Travel Magazine. “The 2011 Sportage is an eye-catching CUV that appeals to a wide audience with its unique combination of breathtaking design, value, quality, technology and standard safety features,” said Michael Sprague, vice president of marketing & communications, Kia Motors America (KMA). “Since its debut last summer, Sportage’s popularity and consumer appeal has outpaced supply in our showrooms.”
The award – based on the “lifestyle compatibility” of a vehicle -is assessed by a 12 member ICOTY jury whose members are drawn from the automotive industry, including; Kelley Blue Book , AutoWeek, Consumer Guide® Automotive, MSN Autos, Truck Trend, NewCarTestDrive.com and Cars.com.
Launched in summer 2010 the Kia Sportage earned a “Top Safety Pick” from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) receiving top ratings for front, side, rollover and rear impact protection. The Sportage is currently offered in three model versions – Base, LX and EX – ranging from $18,295 to $24,795. Later this year, a new Sportage SX will arrive at retail showrooms featuring a 2.0-liter, 256 horsepower Turbo GDI engine.
It’s likely that the 2011 Kia Sportage – like its 2010 predecessor – will be able to be towed four wheels down behind a motorhome when fitted with a Remco LP1 lube pump kit. Lube pumps provide lubrication to the transmission when a car is being towed. Owners should check the manufacturer’s manual – and consult towing specialists like Remco – prior to purchasing or flat towing any potential Toad vehicle.
