I don’t want to gross you out,
But. Did you know what factory farming does to the environment? I didn’t either, but I did do some research on it, this is what I found out
Factory farming doesn’t just pose risks to your health, In most cases it also damages the environment. The stress on cows, chickens, turkey, pigs and lambs can suffer sever stress and pain, when raised industrially and that’s even before they are brought to slaughter.
They are often confined in close quarters, surrounded by waste and fed unnatural and unhealthy diet. And that’s what we are eating , They saying you are what you eat, what if you don’t know what is in what you eat? Humans aren’t immune either, workers in these places also get sick, from chemicals, and the waste. Just think about being at a job, where you are walking and breathing animal waste, day after day. Kinda gross.
This is a way to support farms, promote animal welfare and protect the planet, with making you choices at the grocery store.
In addition to choosing organic and grass fed varieties, which tend to be raised on small family farms, they require less compact on the animal and the environment.
When a big rain comes, or like the snow that we have right now, starts to melt, where do you think this waste is going to go. Into the ground or washes off to streams, rivers and lakes, very few have what they call a waste pond, which is suppose to work to catch all the waste when it rains. But most of these animals also drink from those ponds. One or two cows I can maybe handle, but hundred and thousands. I can’t think of drinking cow waste. I am not saying don’t eat meat. just make sure you know what you are buying, do some research on what goes in the food we eat on a daily bases. The hormones. the feed that is mixed with who knows what. I remember when my youngest daughter was in 6th or 7th grade, a few mothers and I got together and found this place that only sold organic food only. Free range chickens and eggs. We were called the blooming Idiots. We all went together and purchased food of all kinds to feed our family. I was worried my daughter was going to develop to fast from all the hormones they put in beef, chicken and pork. Not to mention milk. I only stopped nature for a short while, but i felt good about what I was feeding my family. I had the guarantee, that every thing was organically grown. So when you go to the grocery store next time, think about the waste run off, and you are what you eat.
