It only takes one person to make a difference in someone’s life. Think of how many lives can be touched when an entire community comes together as a team for change. Get empowered – join the mission of Good Cause Foundation and witness generosity spread throughout communities.
Founded by Jess Bousa of Havre de Grace, Good Cause Foundation envisions raising the level of community service through a generosity movement – increasing community participation and long-term partnerships in Harford and Cecil Counties. Eventually, Good Cause hopes its generosity movement spreads into the rest of the world.
The three core values of Good Cause are assets, generosity, and partnerships. Assets are the unique abilities everyone has to offer the community. Generosity is shown through regular acts of kindness and charity. Partnerships are formed through a strong network of individuals and organizations, and may be the most important component of any organization – more can be accomplished as a team rather than individual effort.
Partnered with community and faith-based organizations, Good Cause seeks to strengthen individuals, families, and neighborhoods by empowering people to serve for the greater good of the community. Acting as a pipeline, Good Cause connects those who want to make a difference with those who need assistance.
After opening its doors in August, 70 volunteers from Good Cause helped deliver a week’s worth of groceries to 100 families in need. Good Cause hosted Halloween and Christmas community celebrations, each featuring face painting, prizes, and fun activities. Thanks to 130 generous volunteers, 130 children received gifts this past Christmas.
Hoping to continue promoting positive change in local communities, Good Cause plans to host six community impact initiatives each year – Coffee with a Cause, Mothers with a Mission, Back to School Initiative, Focus on the Future, Christmas with a Cause, and Stepping into Freedom.
On the third Saturday of every month, the Good Cause Community Center is transformed into a coffee house for Coffee with a Cause. Enjoy live music, 100% Arabica coffee, and good company at the Good Cause Coffee Shop. All proceeds are used for a community service project. The coffee house is a place that opens doors to serve your community. Located at 616 Ontario Street, the coffee house doors open at 7 p.m. and music starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are free, but you must register by contacting 443-502-0152 or firstname.lastname@example.org. One of Good Cause’s biggest initiatives is Mothers with a Mission. The day before Mother’s Day, Good Cause will welcome 100 single moms for a spa day, featuring manicures and massages.
“We want to bless the unsung mothers of our community,” says Bousa.
After Mother’s Day, Good Cause plans to begin its program MOMents for Moms. MOMents for Moms will create a place for mothers to meet new friends and provide/receive support while their children interact. A variety of activities are offered, including exercise classes, walks, crafts, scrapbooking, parenting discussions, and mom’s nights out. Baby showers will be thrown for mothers without resources.
A summer camp experience like no other, Focus on the Future will empower seventh grade students with motivational, interactive workshops and service projects. The camp is designed as a turning point for these students before they enter high school.
Stepping into Freedom will consist of a recovery program for controlling addictions, including chemical dependency, anger management, and sexual obsessions. The 12-step program will enable addicts to break free and enjoy a fuller, happier lifestyle.
In order for any of these initiatives to come to fruition, Good Cause Foundation needs your assistance. There are many ways to get involved with the foundation. To volunteer, fill out the Good Cause Connection Form online. Volunteer opportunities currently include: Coffee with a Cause, Mothers with a Mission, Mulch with a Mission, and MOMents for Moms Group. Consider joining the Marketing & Promotions Team or the Fundraising Team, assisting with the Good Cause building renovation.
Financial contributions are greatly appreciated, as they allow Good Cause to continue its mission to improve our local communities. All donations are tax-deductible and may be made online. In lieu of a monetary donation, consider donating items for the foundation’s baby showers.
Current sponsors of Good Cause include Kurios Creative Design, S.M.I.L.E.S, American Legion of Havre de Grace, and Restore Church.
