The weekend of January 15-16, 2011, is going to be most enjoyable for trail riding. The weather in Perkinston, MS is forecasted to be partly cloudy with a low of 46˚F and a high of 63˚F. Toni Christopher is sponsoring an ACTHA two day event at Golden Pines Equestrian Center in Perkinston.
Day One is on January 15, 2011 and Day Two is on January 16, 2011. Riders can participate on one or both days. The Competitive Trail Challenge (CTC) will feature six miles, six obstacles, and six judges on the Golden Pines’ trails that meander throughout the facility’s 570 acres, and into the adjacent DeSoto National Forrest.
In order to participate in the CTC, a rider must be a member of ACTHA. Fees are very reasonable: Individual – $35, Family of two – $50, and Family of four – $85 annually. As an incentive, for a limited time, ACTHA is offering $115 worth of products with your membership. This includes the following:
- $20 Trail Tips DVD, part I
- $25 Cavallo-Inc gift certificate
- $25 Horse Colic Relief gift certificate
- $25 ACTHA Bucks good at any ACTHA participating sponsors
- $20 Complimentary subscription to The Trail Rider magazine
The Ultimate Equestrian Trail Challenge is not an ACTHA sponsored event. To pre-register for this event or to reserve rooms and/or stalls, contact Patti Switzer at 601-528-9009. The event is open to the public and there are a limited number of entries. The new course will be available for practice on Friday, January 14, 2011.
Following awards on Saturday there will be an optional, low-impact Zumba class with certified instructor Michele West.
For more information please contact Toni Christopher at 251-865-1533 or 251-391-4268.
Proceeds from ACTHA CTCs go to horse rescue organizations so it is fitting that Randi D Taylor will be at this event selling horse jewelry (for the horse). She will be offering spirit necklaces, rhythm beads, mane beads, and saddle beads.
The rhythm beads have bells on them which are good when you out on trails as people and animals can hear you coming, but they are also good for the gaited horses because you can hear when they get in a good gait.
Randi’s horse, Regal, is recovering from a serious colic surgery that was extremely expensive. The colic surgery was performed at LSU and Randi had to finance it with a Care Card. If it is not paid off by November, 2011 the interest rate will kick in at a whopping 22%. Donations received so far have only covered the vet bills for the original vet visit when Regal started to colic.
In order for her to meet her financial responsibilities she is working very hard to raise money to pay her bill and is hoping that selling the handmade horse jewelry at the ride will help.
In the spirit of ACTHA and the bond between horse lovers, please consider assisting Randi by purchasing her products and/or making a donation to help with her expenses.
