The news released by Fox News this afternoon is that John Dye, actor on popular TV show, “Touched by an Angel,” was found dead in his San Francisco home. The medical examiner’s spokesman related the news.
Charles Cecil of the Medical Examiner’s office said that the 47 year old was found dead; but no cause of death has been released.
Jim Dye, John’s father, said that his son was a very giving individual and supported a lot of causes dear to him such as “Make a Wish Foundation”, and AIDS research.
Even though no caused has been determine, friends of his said it was likely heart failure. There is no more information at this time.
There was a response by the Cleveland Daily Banner which reported that when John was a young man he was involved in the Children’s Theater Group and then helped to re-establish it in the 1990’s.
He had a sometimes eerie role on the show because people had become so used to him coming to escort the one whose death was impending into the other world. Roma Downy and Della Reese played the part of the earth bound angels who each week sought to fix people’s problems; and help them to accept that they were sent by God – and for a divine purpose.
“Touched by an Angel,” is one of those endearing shows that drew families to the TV each week. The show had many famous actors, some of whom had passed their heyday. And there was always a good story line and a moral to the story that was inspiring to all the members of the family. It is reported on Wikipedia that in the nine years, there were 211 episodes. Like “Little House,” and the “Waltons,” it will probably be around for some more time to come.

Valerie Bertinelli posted on her Twitter account a message: “Dear, sweet John Dye, rest in peace.”
While his role on “Touched by an Angel,” was by far his largest and most popular role, he did have some other jobs in other venues. He played in the martial-arts movie, “The Best of the Best,” and played in other small roles like “Murder, She Wrote.” He began with the “Touched by an Angel” show in 1994 and he remained with the team for all nine of its season runs.
A spokesman for E.E. Pickle Funeral Home in Amory stated that the funeral arrangements were still incomplete.

John was born John Carroll Dye on January 31, 1963 in Amory, Mississippi. He died on January 10, 2011 in San Francisco, California. His active years in the arts were 1984 through 2007.
John appeared to be a mild mannered angel with genuine concern for his role. He was once on an airplane and when he was recognized by a fellow passenger, he was asked if there was anything to worry about. ~~~~~
