“The Mystery of Ima” Part IV is the last part of this installment regarding Shawn Bechtel’s take on the incidents and investigations… or is it? DSGH continues to investigate Adamsville Cemetery as one of our favorite locations, and so far it remains active… Enjoy!
In this installment of the ongoing investigation of our experiences with the entity that only identifies herself as ‘Ima’, we will describe the events of yet another investigation where we attempted to encourage Ima to relay a little more information about herself. In this investigation It was decided that we split up again, however I wanted to see if Ima would be more comfortable communicating if I was alone. So armed with my camera, DVR (digital voice recorder) and an EMF (ElectroMagnetic Field) detector/meter, I ventured off to an unoccupied side of the cemetery. In this experiment, I wanted to converse more in the familiar with Ima (or any other entity that cared to speak, but I would be directing my efforts specifically at ‘Ima’). To reach this end, I decided I would find a secluded spot, sit down and carry on the normal questioning that occurs during an EVP session, yet do it in a way that presented the appearance that I was really in the company of Ima and that we were two people trying to learn more about each other as people in the living world do.
I have to admit there are many times when asking questions during an EVP session, that it feels like ‘one handed clapping’. Being alone, this time was no different and in fact felt more awkward. Normally you have someone with you to ask questions you haven’t thought of, or that asks them in between your questions to fill the void that so often accompanies your thoughts while struggling to think of a question you haven’t asked before (or that don’t just plain sound stupid! ). Add to this that you are focusing all your senses on the investigation, to filter out outside noises and other distractions, ignoring the reality of how funny one must look talking to thin air at a cemetery! I can’t speak for all, but I have to assume most, if not all, moderate skeptics, get this feeling from time to time. Then, of course, you remember why your doing it and remember not to care what other people are thinking!
Not long into the investigation, two members of the team started to feel ill, one so much that he had to leave before the investigation had finished the preliminary walk through. The second, about halfway though the investigation, had to excuse himself from the remainder of the investigation due to his feeling ill. Upon later analysis it was hard to ignore the fact that a total of three folks had gotten ill feelings while investigating the cemetery as coincidence, but it is still a possibility. Keep in mind one of the investigators taken ill was the same that had felt a cold presence go ‘through them’ on the first investigation, the second and third were married yet got sick on two totally different occasions. Of significant note is that there are power lines that run to the one side of the cemetery, and could be identified as a possible source of ill feelings. I would tend t discount this however due to the fact that I myself have a high sensitivity to strong electromagnetic fields, especially those given off by power stations and high power lines. My fingers swell, my skin starts to itch, I get headaches…the works! Sometimes I think some people are just better conductors than others! However, everybody reacts a little differently to the same stimuli, so I could not say their illness couldn’t be associated with them, I just don’t think it is likely.
Back to the EVP sessions. During the first session, I held a long one-sided conversation asking Ima to tell me about herself (a last name would be nice!), and in general who she was when she lived. While this session upon review did not reveal Ima, another presence was recorded. At the end of my session I indicated that I was going to move on if they would talk to me … or do something. After a long pause, the voice seemed like that of a child saying ‘Night.’, as though acknowledging that I was leaving by saying a short version of ‘goodnight’.
The second and third EVP session was inconclusive due to the amount of background noise that was being created by a distant pump or generator that was running and the number of cars driving by. By the time I conducted the fourth and final EVP session of the night, the outside distractions had toned down to mostly just the distant pump only. This session was not radically different than the other three, just in a different part of the cemetery. Again, near the end of the session I indicated that I was going to have to stop trying to communicate if Ima was not going to speak. Right after that I picked up a familiar voice, very softly saying ‘I should go’…. (then I say: ‘OK, I’m moving on’) and then she says (I believe) ‘I’m going to pa….’.
The voice, matched the previous samples we had recorded of the entity that previously had only identified herself to us by repeating her name. Now it seemed that we were getting more evidence that would support an intelligent haunting, as the EVPs (not the first time) appeared to be in context of the conversation! I have to admit that while these EVPs have not been earth shattering, they seem to be consistent.
These successful interactions with Ima has been very encouraging and have motivated DSGH to do more work with this location to see how much information Ima is willing to impart.
