Where does one draw the line? How is it that a man’s best friend dies of sudden death, and he continues a relationship with his late best friend’s wife? The woman is wealthy, of course, and helps him pay all his bills. Intestate ruled out Dower estate of the inheritance, but there had been some mention that the deceased’s brother was trying to fight her for some of the land, because it had been passed down through generations from their Hawaiian family. Within a few years afterwards, the widow sends off their only daughter for school on the Mainland. Soon, her relationship with her late husband’s best friend seemed utterly suspicious, and much denial went on. The widowed woman was a friend of his ex-wife, but on her occasional parties, she only invites him and not the ex-wife. Actually, the ex-wife found out that the widowed woman once helped her ex-husband in a scheme to get the children taken away from her.
To make matters worse, she allowed his daughters to throw a going away and birthday party in her home, and the daughters chose not to invite their mother, due to her suspiciousness towards their dad’s relationship with the widowed. It also caused arguments among the children with their mother, and they begin to say vulgar words to her. The children’s mother is hurt and feels that her children are blinded by the widows flaunting “gifts”, and fear of such impact on their behavior within society. In fact, the children hardly even come to church anymore, and the members ask about them all the time. They seem to be spending a lot of time with Dad now, at the widow’s house.
It was just yesterday that the children’s mother took them to church for some directions in life, and helped to have their babies baptized. It was just yesterday that their mother worked 24 hours in 7 days to make enough monies to pay for their schooling, personal hygiene needs, and the prom expenses. It was just yesterday when the children constantly complained about their Dad leaving them alone at home all the time, and they have no food in the refrigerator. Where does one draw the line? This women issue arouses many questions. Aside from relevant scenes in famous Roseanne Bar’s act in 1989 movie, She Devil, it may also have some significance as viewed in “Rich Woman versus Poor Woman – SPEAK OUT” reflection written by a working class Chilean woman in 1973.
