Are energy meal replacement bars healthy?
According to Diet.com Most of these energy bars, whether protein or meal replacement, are very high in unhealthy refined sugars.
Corn syrup, sucrose, high fructose corn syrup, brown rice syrup, guava syrup – the list goes on, all constitute a high percentage of the contents. In many cases they are just a stealth candy bar.
Not only that, many of them contain high amounts of saturated fat. The wrong kind of saturated fat – like palm kernel oil for example. Many also contain Hydrogenated fats which contain trans fats.
Many of the ingredients are just plain confusing.
So, how does one ensure he or she is getting good healthy nutrition without the hidden junk?
A viable option is to make your own.
Here is a recipe that meets the healthy nutritious criteria.
When Robbie L, a resident of Vancouver, tasted these “No guilt energy bars” she gave them a rating of 10, and promptly went home to make her own.
The taste test then went to a ‘raw foods enthusiasts’ group, who meet monthly in Abbotsford. They gave this bar a hearty thumbs up.
This delicious, easy to make energy bar, is loaded with good nutrition.
Recipe for “No guilt energy bar”

In a stainless steel pot mix:
(use organic ingredients)
1 ¼ cup virgin coconut oil
¼ – cup unpasteurized honey (or to taste)
On the lowest heat – bring honey and coconut oil to a liquid form
(coconut oil will liquefy quickly on very low heat)
1 cup almonds – freshly ground
1 cup sunflower seeds
1 cup pumpkin seeds
1 cup shredded coconut
1 cup carob powder
1 cup rolled oats – freshly ground (or Rye flakes etc.)
2 handfuls raisins
½ tsp. Sea salt
Mix liquid and dry ingredients
The consistency should be like a gooey cookie
Press ¼ – ½ inch into a glass or stainless steel pan
Score (even if the score seems to disappear )
Place in the freezer for ½ – 1 hour – if solid break up into pieces
Store in a container in the fridge or freezer.
