Dr. Catherine Lowe, Founder and Director of Artists Showcase, and the Board members invite the general public to attend an exhibition and reception, “Reclaiming Our Heritage: A Local Perspective,”at the Historic Jenkins House this Saturday, March 26, 2011, 4:30 – 6:30 p.m.The Artists Showcase of the Palm Beaches challenged artists to create artworks reflecting their interpretation of their personal history. Whether they grew up in Palm Beach County, or came here from somewhere else, artists were encouraged to reclaim their heritagethrough art, from true-to-life portraits to abstract renderings.
Artworks by six local artists were selected for the exhibition: John Vincent Palozzi, Maxine Schreiber, Benjamin Kenagen, Judith “Yudit” Eisinger, Michael Dubiner and Diane Hutchinson. First Prize will be awarded to Diane Hutchinson whose watercolor titled “The Conversation” was used to advertise the event. Awards will also be presented for Second, Third and Best in Show honors at the special exhibition to be held on Saturday.
Guests will also have a chance to learn about the Artists Showcase’s efforts to reopen this historic site, which was damaged in the hurricanes of 2004 and 2005. The organization promotes and displays the creative works and contributions of “Artists of Color” and develops awareness for the educational enrichment of children and adults through multi-cultural diversity. Members were concerned that their lease on the Jenkins House ended March 23, but they were relieved that the City gave them a 90-day reprieve. Now, they have more time to raise money and complete necessary repairs to the building making them optimistic that the historic home will remain their venue.
All of the artworks on display will be available for sale, and 30% of the proceeds from sales will benefit the Artists Showcase. Their motto is, “ART is FUN – COME BE A PART OF GREATNESS. Giving Makes Greatness Possible.” Everyone is invited to become a member. Annual dues range from $35 for Artists to $150 for VIP Charter Members. Membership will make you an integral part of this vital, community-based non-profit, arts organization.
