So much has been written about the tragedy in Arizona yesterday, and no doubtedly will continue to be written as the media follows up on all the leads, the loose ends, and the prosecution of the perpetrator.
Sheriff Clarence W. Dupnik, notorious for his vow to refuse enforcement of Arizona’s briefly passed immigrattion law, has called Rep. Gabrielle Giffords “one of the nicest human beings ever planted on this earth.” Dupnik, an elected Sheriff who turns 75 this week, is taking a lot of flak this weekend for blaming free speech for Saturday’s massacre.
Is Gabrielle Giffords really one of the nicest people on earth? That is quite an odd and misapplied characterization, if you’re coming from the perspective of a Christian who believes in the inherent value of all human beings.
This may not be popular, but it needs to be said.
Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta, the Catholic humanitarian nun who was beatified by Pope John Paul II in 2007, spoke of the inherent evils of abortion and stressed that all people of faith must ardently oppose it:
“But I feel that the greatest destroyer of peace today is abortion, because it is a war against the child – a direct killing of the innocent child – murder by the mother herself. And if we accept that a mother can kill even her own child, how can we tell other people not to kill one another? How do we persuade a woman not to have an abortion? As always, we must persuade her with love, and we remind ourselves that love means to be willing to give until it hurts. Jesus gave even his life to love us. So the mother who is thinking of abortion, should be helped to love – that is, to give until it hurts her plans, or her free time, to respect the life of her child. The father of that child, whoever he is, must also give until it hurts. By abortion, the mother does not learn to love, but kills even her own child to solve her problems. And by abortion, the father is told that he does not have to take any responsibility at all for the child he has brought into the world. That father is likely to put other women into the same trouble. So abortion just leads to more abortion. Any country that accepts abortion is not teaching the people to love, but to use any violence to get what they want. That is why the greatest destroyer of love and peace is abortion.“
Despite this ‘deadened-conscience’ mindset so prevalent in the United States, anyone with common sense or a lick of morality would never even consider blaming violent rampages on “free speech” or talk radio. They should blame the immoral culture of death and promotion of murder and abortion which unfortunately, Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords wholeheartedly endorses.
NARAL Pro Choice America, originally referred to as the National Association for the Repeal of Abortion Laws, awarded Gabrielle Giffords a 100 per cent score for being ‘pro-choice’. Giffords recently voted against amendments that would have prohibited federal tax dollars from funding infant genocide (aka ‘abortion’). Even a bill that would have allowed funding of abortions in the case of rape or incest wasn’t good enough for her. She wanted no prohibitions on funding of abortions whatsoever. Even going back to her days in the Arizona State Legislature, Giffords maintained “Abortions should always be legally available.” She supported “buffer zones” at abortion clinics by requiring demonstrators to remain a certain distance from doorways and driveways. She is an ardent supporter of embryonic stem cell research and federal funding of it. She also wanted Arizona to recognize unions between ‘same-sex’ couples and wanted to increase kindergarden to a full day. Enthusiastically supported by both Janet Napolitano and Bill Clinton in her first bid for Congress, Giffords represents the epitomize of the anti-life statist. NARAL even issued a press release on the shooting yesterday, condemning the ‘incomprehensible tragedy’.
So, although it is indeed tragic that this violent murderous attack took place in Tuscon, Giffords should not be turned into a modern day Joan of Arc. I hope that Gabrielle Giffords fully recovers from her injuries. I hope and pray more importantly, that she awakens and sees the light of the one true God, Jesus Christ, and repents of her evil ways. Thankfully, she has been given another chance to do so. No decent, moral or ‘nice’ person endorses the continued slaughter of the unborn by the millions.
Similarly, I hope that the scores of neocon Republicans reading this will awaken and see the evil of killing millions of innocent Iraqis and Afghanis in this obscene and preposterous undeclared war the united States is engaged in.
The Fifth Comandment of the Catholic Church, THOU SHALT NOT KILL, forbids both the slaughter of the unborn through abortion as well as participation in unncecessary and unjust wars. 2308 ‘All citizens and all governments are obliged to work for the avoidance of war.’
Mother Teresa was right. “America needs no words from me to see how your decision in Roe v. Wade has deformed a great nation. The so-called right to abortion has pitted mothers against their children and women against men. It has sown violence and discord at the heart of the most intimate human relationships.”
It’s been said that “one death is a tragedy, but a million deaths is a statistic”. This quote was allegedly attributed to dictator Joseph Stalin, although that is disputed. Nevertheless, it seems to sadly apply today. The deaths of millions of innocents through government malfeasance, immoral sanctions, genocidal undeclared wars and unfettered abortion has destroyed the soul of this nation. The ‘culture of death’ is alive and well in America and in the 8th Congressional District of Arizona. We must equally condemn Saturday’s shooting as well as the soft-pedaling of pure evil.
Lastly, lest readers think that all libertarians support the evil of infanticide, check out Libertarians for Life website. (L4L.org)
May God have mercy on the souls of all the slain, and may the perpetrator as well as the survivors of yesterday’s tragedy be granted, peace, healing and forgiveness.
