Gorilla Tango Theatre hosts the $1000 GTT IMPROV THING, a comedy contest with a grand prize of $1,000, a Nintendo Wii, a performance slot in the Chicago Improv Festival, and more.
The competition depends on votes from the audience so any one wishing to make their opinion count may attend any the Friday and Saturday performances at 9:30 p.m., from January 7 – 28, 2011 with the grand finale at 6:00 p.m. on January 29, 2011.
Running the gamut from newbies and seasoned veterans, this year’s lineup of competing comedy troupes includes:
#1 Pencil is a close-knit group of three friends with diverse performance backgrounds who create fast-paced improvisation filled with vivid imagery, and wildly off-key singing.
Eisbaer is a two-man improv team which takes audience suggestions to humorously relay what it means to be human via Germanic overtones.
Improvised Jane Austen creates a Regency love story on the spot. The 10 women of the company have performed at The Playground Theatre, Donny’s Skybox and the Del Close Marathon in New York City.
Just For Kit is a newly-created improv duo where Tom Scheide and Quinn Wilson intertwine wacky, smart characters to counterattack and interact with straight and witty ideas.
Miami Pantsuit, also known as “Bagels Las Vegas,” can be found performing in empty bars and luxurious sandwich shops around the city.
Now In Technicolor is derived from the urban sketch and improv troupe The Freshmen, and features diverse performers that provide a unique voice in improv through their combined experiences.
