Duilio’s is a nice venue with seating for 60 customers. They boast a relaxing seating area at street level outside where you can dine “al fresco” and watch the city go by, or you can opt to dine inside. Inside the restaurant is open and inviting and decorated in warm woods and soft beige hues with a playful nod to the stereotypical Italian restaurant with a few scatted “red and white checkered” table cloths. The restaurant also features a cozy and comfy wine bar with a seating area full of soft chairs and couches, a sizeable pool table surrounded by bottles of wine, and three TVs including a big screen TV where Duilio’s will often screen international sports events. Duilio’s also has an open kitchen where you can watch the chefs prepare the fresh made to order pastas and pizzas and bake the homemade breads. “My idea is to offer genuine, regional Italian cuisine” said Duilio Lazzara, “I want to give people value for their money and prepare the food in a traditional way. The recipes are my original recipes based on traditional Southern Italian cooking. I choose dishes that can be prepared on the spot and made fresh. There is no re-heating, or making it ahead, even our lasagna (which features homemade pasta) is individually prepared. We are committed to only using quality and fresh ingredients”.
The menu at Duilio’s is massive, with plenty of appetizers, soups, salads, breads, pizzas, pastas, seafood dishes, grilled items and desserts. Frankly, the menu can be a bit overwhelming, but what sets Duilio’s apart is the wonderful handmade pasta dishes and the fresh pizza they make. Duilio’s has 11 dishes that incorporate fresh handmade pasta including their tortellini, egg noodles, fettuccini, ravioli, gnocchi and lasagna. They also make 11 different bread dishes and 21 different pizzas.A highly recommended pizza is the 14” Diavola con Salame Piccante $9.93USD (300Baht) which is an utterly flavorsome marriage of tomato, gooey mozzarella cheese and spicy salami in a delectable crust that is warm and chewy. Other popular pizzas include the 12”Contadina pizza $10.60USD (320Baht) which is tomato, ricotta cheese, spicy salami, mushroom and rucola; as well as the 12” Duilio pizza which includes tomatoes, mozzarella, onions, mushrooms, salami, green capsicum, anchovies, and spicy Thai chilies (which can be made to order from very hot to mild). Homemade pasta dishes to try include the Fettuccine al Salmone Vodka $9.27USD (280Baht) which is made with fresh salmon and heavy cream that is flambéed with vodka. The texture of the pasta is delicate and the flavor of the sauce is expertly controlled to produce a very cohesive dish that was lighter than expected. The Tortellini Panna & Prosciutto di Parma $11.00USD (330Baht) was exquisite. The pork inside the homemade pasta was subtle yet provocative, and the cream sauce was rich and luxurious, while the Parma ham added the perfect touch of smokiness and saltiness to the dish.Duilio’s is nice because it has a good selection of wines by the bottle or glass. Duilio’s features 4 white wines and 6 red wines by the glass and they are reasonably priced between $4.96USD-$9.27USD. They also usually have promotional wines that they rotate for $29.79USD (900Baht) a bottle, and the staff is fairly knowledgeable and can recommend wines if you ask. Duilio’s is one of those spots that has the potential to surprise you. It’s laid back, the prices are very reasonable, and the selection of good wines by the glass is impressive.
