Shawntel Newton was eliminated from “The Bachelor” season 15 on Monday’s episode after Brad traveled to Chico, Calif. to meet Shawntel’s family and visit her workplace, which just so happens to be her family’s funeral home.

And while some people may think Brad was too creeped out by Shawntel’s profession to continue seeing her, it really came down to Brad not feeling the way he felt he should’ve felt when Shawntel told him she loved him. Shawntel was near tears during her final conversation with Brad and told him he had set the bar pretty high for her future boyfriends. Before the pair parted, Shawntel told Brad she had a lot of respect for him and wished him the best – a common theme from this season’s bachelorettes.
Brad meets Chantal’s family
Before Chantal introduced Brad to her family, she took him to her house to introduce him to her pets, which are apparently a huge part of her life. Brad made friends with Chantal’s dog, Boca, who Chantal said bites everyone but loved Brad; he took that as a good sign. Brad loved seeing Chantal in her element, telling viewers it reminded him of the fun-loving, confident woman he met in the beginning.

Brad was a little nervous walking into Chantal’s family’s home. It was a large, beautiful mansion that could’ve housed a pretentious family that didn’t approve of Brad’s past. Lucky for Brad, though, the family inside of the large home was welcoming and hit it off with the bachelor right off the bat. There was a lot of laughing, and everyone appeared to enjoy their time together. Brad and Chantal’s father had a lot in common and connected over both being self-made and having estranged relationships with their fathers; it was as if they’d know one another for years. At the end of their conversation, Chantal’s father gave Brad his blessing. He told viewers he would be proud to have Brad as his son-in-law.
Brad meets Ashley’s family
Before Ashley introduced Brad to her family, she took him to lunch at the restaurant where she held her first job. There, she introduced Brad to one of her favorite dishes – poutine, which is a common dish in Canada (Ashley’s family lives close to the Canadian border) that is made up of French fries covered with gravy and cheese. After lunch, Ashley took Brad shopping for dinner items – vegetables from a local stand and Maine lobsters. Brad absolutely loved Ashley’s small town and loved how comfortable Ashley was with him while showing him around.

Ashley said she felt really reassured when she was finally back with her family and introducing Brad to her family, and it truly showed. She was excited and energized, and she couldn’t stop being affectionate toward Brad. While conversations in Ashley’s home went well, it brought to light how much Ashley had going on in her own life. His question was, is Ashley ready to be engaged? Yes, Ashley was about to graduate, and yes, Brad has the ability to support Ashley while she starts her career, but Brad still couldn’t help but wonder if he would be holding her back.
Brad meets Shawntel’s family
Before Shawntel introduced Brad to her family, she introduced him to her family business – a funeral home. Brad seemed very nervous at the funeral home, but that’s understandable since she was showing him burial plots, the crematorium and the area where she embalms bodies. Brad said he was fascinated by her work, but he looked terrified; although, he was a really good sport when she explained how she embalms a body. By the end of the afternoon, Brad said he was creeped out but really impressed with Shawntel’s character.

Dinner at Shawntel’s family’s home was a little awkward. Shawntel’s dad threw into the conversation that he would be retiring sometime in the near future and was happy to be leaving his business in the hands of his capable daughter. Shawntel then explained that Brad, whom she was falling in love with, lived in Austin, Texas, and she reminded the family that she went into this process knowing she could end up moving away from her family. The room was silent at that point, and Brad sensed something was off. Privately, Shawntel’s father laid on the guilt a little thicker, bringing up that her high school teacher really needed her while she was gone after the teacher’s son was tragically killed. She put her foot down that she would be willing to leave her hometown, but her father couldn’t get past the fact Shawntel would be killing the family’s plans for their business. Shawntel’s father did give his blessing at the end of the day, but it seemed really forced.
Brad meets Emily’s family
Brad’s trip to Charlotte to meet Emily’s family was very different than his other hometown dates because Emily, although hesitant at first, was ready to introduce Brad to her daughter. Brad and Emily knew this was huge, especially since Brad was the first man Emily had dated since Ricky’s father died that she had introduced to Ricky. Things were tough upon first meeting. Ricky was really unsure of Brad and didn’t say anything. She spent a lot of time hiding behind her mom, and she was hesitant to open Brad’s present (a butterfly kite). It took a long time for Ricky to open up to Brad, but his kite really helped the situation and helped her relax around him.
Brad, Emily and Ricky spent the night playing board games and relaxing around the house. Brad really enjoyed his time with the pair, and he seemed relieved when Emily requested to say goodnight and thank you to Brad before falling asleep. Once Ricky was asleep, Brad and Emily got to spend some time alone before he left, although the alone time may not have gone the way Emily planned. Brad had a really hard time being affectionate with Emily with her daughter sleeping upstairs. She said she was fine with it, but she looked really confused. She told him it was sweet of him to be respectful, but she reminded him that, if they end up together, Ricky will always be upstairs sleeping. It was almost a really awkward ending to the pair’s day, but Emily refused to let Brad leave without kissing her.
