The Brampton Battalion will visit the Niagara Icedogs for the second time on Saturday night. This will be the third of six meetings between the division rivals this season. Both of the previous meetings were decided in overtime, with each team winning once. The Icedogs sit second in the Central Division and third in the Eastern Conference with 70 points.
On Brampton: The Battalion are in third place in the Central Division and sixth place in the Eastern Conference with 48 points. The Battalion ended their four game losing skid with a 2-1 win over Belleville on Friday night. The Battalion now sit five points behind fifth place Kingston and five points up on seventh place Sudbury. Forward Barclay Goodrow is now tied for the team goal scoring lead after netting his 18thof the season against the Bulls. Goalie Cody St. Jacques was five seconds away from a shutout in that game and now as an 8-8 record with a 2.93 goals against average. Forward Scott Tanski played his 200thcareer OHL game last night, while Philip Lane will play his 100thtonight.
On Niagara: The Icedogs have only lost once in regulation time over the last 12 games, with the only loss coming against the OHL leading Mississauga Majors. Niagara has been very strong defensively this year surrendering the second fewest goals against. Goalie Mark Visentin has been a big part of that posting four shutouts to go along with a 2.41 goals against average and .920 save percentage. The Icedogs are no slouch offensively either with the OHL player of the month for January, Ryan Strome, sitting second in the league with 81 points. Strome is joined by Freddie Hamilton, Andrew Aggozino, Alex Friesen, and Darren Archibald as players who have eclipsed the 20 goal plateau. Top defensive prospect Dougie Hamilton has contributed 45 points.
