There’s never an easy way to break up with someone, but via text, post-it or any social-networking site is simply unacceptable. Honor what you had with that person by at least buying them a drink before you crush em’! So here’s some public places (where hopefully you can avoid a scene) to do the dirty deed.
Seaport Village- 849 W. Harbor Dr. San Diego, CA 92101 #619-235-4014
It’s open, it’s airy, and there are plenty of people walking around taking pictures, so the likelihood that anyone is paying attention to you and your upsetting moment is slim. Plus, most of them are tourists, so if they do see you weeping…who cares? You’ll never run into them again! Casual restaurants like the Harbor House contain a sprawling oceanic view along with cheap eats to make your breakup more bearable. Plenty of free parking with validation is another plus here.
Fred’s Mexican Café- 2470 San Diego Ave. San Diego, CA 92110 #619-858-8226
Not the best Mexican in town, but it’ll get the job done. Again, it’s a tourist hot-spot, so most people will be paying attention to the kitschy décor and music, not your sad, sad, conversation. There’s plenty of outdoor seating and large tasty margaritas to drown your sorrows are readily available.
The Gathering- 902 W. Washington St.San Diego, CA 92103 #619-260-0400
The place feels like home. It’s comforting and soothing, so if tears start to fall, at least you’ll be comforted by the fact that someone like your mom is your waitress. Not a lot of fuss here, simple décor with simple cooking, the Eggs Sardu are reason enough to visit.
Kensington Club- 4079 Adams Ave.San Diego, CA 92116 #619-284-2848
It’s a small, dark, dive bar so you’ll get a lot of bang for your buck, which will most likely be needed in this situation. Sit wayyy in the back for some privacy, the people working here will definitely not be up in your biznatch. Once the deed is over, mosey over to the long bar where a friendly bartender will pour you the stiffest drink of your life.
Monica’s at the Park- 1735 Adams Ave. San Diego, CA 92116 #619-665-2162
A cozy coffee shop tucked away in a small corner of University Heights, it has a quaint outdoor patio, warm croissants and friendly ladies at the front counter who will surely take sympathy in your situation. Plus one of their luscious desserts or warm mochas will perk any downer day right on up!
Breaking up is hard to do, but let’s bring back common decency people! In person (preferably with a drink in hand) is the only way to go. Good luck!
