The PR camp for entrepreneur Glen Blaschke and hit-songwriter Tammy Hyler announced the formation of Big Country Records and Big Country Entertainment during an industry launch at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum on Jan. 19.
The Nashville-based full-service label has signed singer/songwriter Morgan Tobias, and her debut single will be released to country radio this spring. Blaschke and Hyler will serve as president and vice president of creative, respectively, and additional staff hirings will be announced shortly.
“The mission and purpose for Big Country Records are uniquely simple: to bring extraordinary artists and their music to the public,” said Blaschke, who has a business background in healthcare, including innovation and development of healthcare systems. “We believe that by focusing on an efficient process that places creative control in the artist’s hands, we can create an independent music label that throws off the yoke of the traditional music industry. When we place emphasis on the artist, we involve them in every facet of their career, and focus on that artist–one at a time–until their success is achieved.”
With a long and deeply rooted passion for country music, Blaschke said he always knew he would one day be involved in some way in the country music industry. When he and Hyler met, it was obvious to both that there would be great synergy between his business experience from the healthcare world, and her creative experience in the country music industry.
A hit songwriter in Nashville for over 13 years, Hyler has penned several No. 1 songs and top-40 hits, including “I Love You ” and “It’s My Time” for Martina McBride, “I Can Still Feel You” for Collin Raye and “SHOES” for Shania Twain. Her extensive writing career includes cuts with such artists as George Strait, Journey, Jamie O’Neil, Sara Evans, Wynonna, and more.
As for the label’s debut signee, “Meeting Morgan for the first time, you could swear you see bluebirds flying around her head and little forest animals gathering at her feet,” said Hyler, who brought Morgan to the label. “Her completely enchanting personality is beautifully paired with a smooth as satin vocal tone that grabs the listener and takes them to a place they don’t ever want to leave.
“She has a dream … to hopefully make the world just a little bit better place with her music,” Hyler added, “and we plan to help her do just that.”
Big Country Records and Big Country Entertainment will be housed at 44 Music Square West in Nashville.
