You don’t have to be a skier or a snowboarder to enjoy the wide range of fun, unique competitions and activities being offered by the Boston Mills- Brandywine Ski Resort’s Winter Carnival on Saturday, March 12.
Winter Carnival It doesn’t matter if you are a participant or just a spectator, the unusual competitions should tickle your fancy. Among the competitions is the Firehose Race where teams of 4 will be skiing or snowboarding through a slalom course carrying the firehose trying not to drop it and face certain elimination.
In the Garbage Bag Race you can watch competitors slide down the hill on their backsides using only a garbage bag. Categories for participants are 12 and Under and 13 and Over. The first person to cross the finish line in each division will win a Tubing Party for 10.
Among other activities is the Bikini Race (for female participants only) that includes an obstacle course. The first place finisher will receive $100 with second and third place finishers also receiving prizes.
In the Slosh Pit competition (first 100 entrants), participants can cross either the Granddaddy pit ( with 65 feet of cold waist deep water to cross) or the Little Brother pit (a 15 foot pool of cold water). Participants have to declare their choice of pit. Those making it across the largest pit will receive a Boston Mills – Brandywine T-shirt. If you manage to pull off the best trick crossing the pits you will receive a $25 gift card to Buckeye Sports Center.
If you love extreme sports then don’t miss watching the sled racing event using Austrian Zipfibob sleds at 5 p.m. The fastest team down the hill will win a Snow Tubing Party for 25.
An afternoon event will be a costume contest where the top three costumes in each category will be determined by audience applause.
BBQ ribs and chicken and all the trimmings will be available for purchase in the Party Zone Beer Tent. There will be live music by Doug Kaufman in Joe Rider’s Lounge and Deli from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m.
All the events at the Boston Mills – Brandywine Winter Carnival are free. However, event participants must have a valid snow pass/lift ticket to compete. Boston Mills is located at 7100 Riverview Rd. in Peninsula, Ohio.
