Music industry veteran Brian Murphy has just been named President West Coast, AEG Live, it was announced today. In his new role, Murphy will focus on AEG Live’s venues along the West Coast and will report to AEG Live’s CEO Randy Phillips. Murphy–one of the most respected leaders in the American concert industry–brings his vast knowledge and unique perspective as well as his solid relationships with some of the top touring talent in the business to his new position. In addition, Murphy will work alongside the AEG team with a focus on booking and developing AEG Live’s venues on the West Coast.
“This is so great for AEG,” says Goldenvoice President Paul Tollett. “I have wanted to work with Brian for years.”
“I’m excited by the opportunity AEG Live has presented to me,” Brian Murphy says. “I finally get to work with Paul Tollett, Larry Vallon and a team of others who I have respected for many years. We’re going to have some fun!”
“It is very rare for an entertainment company like AEG Live to have the opportunity and good fortune to hire an executive with Brian Murphy’s reputation, relationships, experience, and entrepreneurial ability,” Randy Phillips, President & CEO of AEG Live, said. “The combination of Brian and Paul Tollett, CEO of Goldenvoice and producer of the Coachella and Stagecoach music Festivals, will further solidify AEG Live’s standing and reputation as the industry leader on the west coast and an even better partner for our artists and their representatives.”
Throughout Murphy’s 30-year career–which began when he started booking music for school functions while attending college in Washington state–he has worked at Creative Management Associates (now International Creative Management), Pacific Presentations, Avalon Attractions, SFX and ultimately Live Nation Entertainment where he served as Chairman of the Southern California region and Senior Vice President of Business Development for Live Nation’s Los Angeles Music division. Murphy has worked closely with U2, Bruce Springsteen, Madonna, Metallica, Depeche Mode, Pearl Jam, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Muse and many more.
Murphy will begin working in AEG’s Los Angeles offices January 18, 2010.
