The Republicans have gone from being the party of fear to the party of lies. The budget crisis is one big fat Koch Brothers scam. No matter what any Republican says it isn’t about the budget, Pennsylvania’s or anyone elses. Bobby Sands the IRA member who died of a hunger strike in 1981 to bring attention to what was happening in Ireland made note that,” It is repression that creates the revolutionary spirit of freedom.”
Here on a national level the Republicans demanded and got Obama to agree to tax cuts for the rich that will cost $930 billion but now demand 60 billion in tax cuts because the deficit is out of control. In Wisconsin they essentially had no deficit until Scott Walker the governor gave away $117 million in tax cuts to the rich. Now they have a deficit of $137 million. This is the lying pretext for attacking Unions and collective bargaining.
In point of fact there is plenty of wealth in America it has just been appropriated by the richest Americans through Republican tax cutting policy and aided and abetted by Democrats who accept the Republican economic world view like Obama. The truth is the top 5% control a larger share of the wealth than the rest of us put together. That is the real reason there is a shortage of resources in the wealthiest nation on earth.
It is not Unions that drove the economy over the cliff it was Republican tax cutting and deregulation coupled with a greed is good ethical focus that has left America seemingly broke. The lack of good paying jobs, the sense of nothing changing, the rising cost of food, gas etc.. the decline of wages at the same time is fueling turmoil in the Middle East and now Middle Class Americans are revolting against the dictatorship of the Right. Scott Walker proves there is much more in common with Wisconsin and Cairo and other Mid East upheavals. They all share many convergent issues from globalizations negative effects.
Unions are the only organized resistence to Right Wing rule for as far into the future as you can see. The SEIU, AFCME and AFT are the only campaign donors who made it into the top ten donors in the 2010 election cycle. The rest were corporate and Right Wing donors like the Koch Brothers almost entirely to Republicans. This is what the Union busting is all about.
Unions are the last bastion of true democracy. Unions have been at the fore front of the equal rights and Civil Rights agenda as well as providing democracy in the work place. Unions have provided workers due process in the work place to make sure discipline is fair not dictatorial. That is not protecting bad workers it is making sure we have fairness and justice.
In a Democracy all have a right to be heard yet this is another aspect of what Republicans want to deny. The Republican model of govenance is the authoritarian father for whom you just blindly obey with no dissent or dialogue. That of course is not Democracy even if the leader was elected democratically. Democracy is an ongoing debate. The American Revolution was about the right of all citizens to have a say in decisions that affect their lives and that includes working conditions on the job.
We also get a glimpse into the convergence of money and power and the quid pro quo that has grown up. Scott Walker recieved $43,000.00 from the Koch Brothers for his election campaign. But their largesse is not over there. They are the financial power behind Americans for Prosperity a group tied to the astro turf Tea Party. They orchestrated the demonstrations in support of Walker by busing Tea Partiers from as far away as Virginia to create the image of support for his arrogance of power.
Here begins the convergence of economic politics that will bring these demonstrations to Harrisburg by Gov. Tom Corbett. All the Republican governors received marching orders courtesy of a group called the American Legislative Exchange Council funded by the Koch Brothers to show the governors how to use tax breaks for the wealthy to create a budget crisis that could be parlayed into cuts to pension plans, and collective bargaining by portraying the crisis as a result of unions not the tax cuts.
Madison is the first test of the Right Wing War to defeat American Democracy and leave no effective opposition to their rule for as far into the future as anyone can see. Of course Walker stuck a a hidden goody that has just been exposed in his Union busting budget bill and that is that Wisconsin can sell its energy assets in no bid contracts worth millions to private companies. Of course the Koch’s are in the position to benefit handily from this and from the Union busting.
Next month Governor Tom Corbett of Pennsylvania may bring the Class War to Pennsylvania. Make no mistake about it this battle will be just as much about freedom and democracy as what happened in Cairo. Republicans are now poised to take over America. As the Middle East is deposing dictators for Freedom, America needs to rise up to keep from succumbing to them.
