Mild air with well above normal temperatures will round out the work week across the immediate Capital Region. This will be short lived though as a cold front, tied to a potent area of low pressure over the northern tip of Lake Superior, slices through the area later this afternoon and evening. Behind this frontal system an area of strong high pressure will attempt to build in. The difference in pressure between these two pressure systems will steepen, with Eastern New York in the battle zone. Thus, strong and gusty winds look to persist later tonight through the day on Saturday.
The weekend will be brisk and gusty, and a few snow showers are possible as very cold air in the mid and upper levels is funneled across the Lake’s Erie & Ontario setting the lake effect snow machine into action.
We continue to monitor a storm system forecast to track from the Central Plains into Mid Atlantic from the Monday afternoon to Tuesday afternoon time frame. This system may bring another round of mixed precipitation to the region to start out the new work week next week. More to follow in future forecasts.
