High pressure over Lake Ontario Monday morning will bring relative calm to the immediate Capital Region for the holiday. It will remain quite cold however.
A storm system, presently developing over the Gulf Coast states, will transfer its energy to the Carolina Coastal Plain through the day today, where a major coastal storm is expected to develop and move north, paralleling the Mid Atlantic coast and moving over the Southern New England coast during the day on Tuesday before moving into the Canadian Maritime provinces Tuesday night. This will be followed by the passage of a weak cold front during the day on Wednesday.
There is increasing confidence that the immediate Capital Region will be impacted by this storm with yet another significant precipitation event. The question remains, will it remain cold enough for all snow across the area, or will there be a changeover to another wintry precipitation type? The current thinking is that enough cold air will remain in place over the region to keep the event predominantly a snow event, although there may be times when sleet and/or freezing rain does mix in.
Those with travel plans late tonight and especially on Tuesday, returning to work for the shortened work week, should stay tuned for later statements and updates concerning this storm.
