The upper level low pressure system that brought hail producing thunderstorms to portions of the region on Sunday, was slowly lifting northward and away from the area this morning. The trend will be for this system to lose its once firm grip on the region through the day today. High pressure will be allowed to build into the region, from the upper Great Lakes, through the day today. This should allow for gradual clearing during the day, with skies becoming mostly clear by the time the sun sets this evening. It will be a breezy day as the region lies in a steep pressure gradient between the departing low pressure and incoming high pressure area. The breeze should settle down as the sun sets.
Fair weather persists overnight tonight, and may last through most of the day on Tuesday. However, a complex low pressure system will be advancing toward the region, from the southeastern states, through this period. In advance of the system, winds will shift to a southwesterly direction, allowing for temperatures to rise to above normal for the midweek period. The main low pressure area looks to stay to our west for the bulk of the event, and push into eastern Canada by Thursday morning. This will likely send a cold front through the region by this time, though it looks to be a weak cold front, as the low pressure area that caused it begins to slowly weaken.
A more progressive, or faster moving, cold front looks to pay the region a visit in time for the end of the work week. This frontal system looks to pack a punch, and also to have some chilly air behind it for the weekend. If some of the current data hold true, the second half of the weekend might be quite chilly, and the early portions of next week might truly feel like autumn.
