March 23, 2011 – Tonight, American Idol fans waited to see their performers. Casey Abrams, who is one of the front- runners, not only delighted the judges, but fans were thrilled that he went into the audience to sing to them. One girl stuck her tongue out. ON national TV, it did not give the best impression, and would be great for a Dairy Queen commercial. It was a cutsey, quick moment that reminds people of how excited the audience member are to be at American Idol in person.
Casey sang the song, ‘Heard It Through the Grapevine’ by Marvin Gaye. It is MOTOWN week and Idol is off to a great start as the contestants pick out favorite MOTOWN hits. Just prior to singing, American Idol shows clips of the performers as they learn from the producers and experts in performing. This week Casey was given advice on how to control the screeching that the judges objected to last week.
As Casey said, “I need to harness that energy, instead of letting it all happen all at once; thats where the screeching and gowl just kind of explodes.”
Audience reaction to Casey Abrams is very positive. Almost electricical, as girls stand and clap along. When Casey sings there are smiles all around. The improvement in Casey is immediately recognized as he has lessened the growl and focused more on the delivery and performance style. One thing that is obvious by audience reactions on all social media, is that the judges are being taken to task for being trite. At the end of his performance, the audience gave a standing ovation, cheering and clapping.
The judges loved Casey’s performance noting that he had more control.
Steven was even more enthusiatic, gushing, “You hear that Casey, (referring to audience standing ovation) I think you are the perfect entertainer. Perfect pitch and perfect mix of crazy ass, out of control ego.”
Randy exclaimed, “You can only do you, and that you is great.”
JLO’s critique was understated without comment on the actual song, “Is there anybody out there like you? I don’t think there is!”

Pinklady4ever RT @Idol360: Casey Abrams – Heard It Through The Grapevine – I loved this, he was a little more reserved this week and you could actually hear him SING.
ConcreteLoop RT @That_Just_In: @ConcreteLoop “eh”. CaseyAbrams is the most talented of the lot. The others are either boring or overdoing it
Watch the video by clicking on the video box in the left column. The interaction with the audience is good, the performance is strong according to the judges. Our viewing room loved it saying it was really, really good. The grapevine gossips must be talking about this performance in Motown.
