It’s that time again to salute “that frozen concoction that helps us hang on” because Tuesday, February 22nd, is National Margarita Day!
The liquor industry claims that the Margarita is the single most popular cocktail in the nation and there is no doubt that Jimmy Buffett’s popular song “Margaritaville” has helped with this high ranking. In fact, the U.S. had its second major boost to tequila sales in the 70’s when Buffett released the infamous song that encouraged millions of Americans to indulge in the salt rimmed boat drink.
Jimmy Buffett’s “Margaritaville” tune was so popular; it inspired a chain of restaurants and stores worldwide. The Margaritaville restaurants now serve over 2.7 million Margaritas annually to Parrot Heads all over the planet. The folks at Margaritaville will celebrate National Margarita Day in their locations from Key West to Grand Turk and each location will be offering various Margarita specials. If you are lucky enough to be born on February 22, you will a gift certificate to use during your visit and a free bottle of Margaritaville Margarita Mix goes to any guest named Margarita or Rita.
Margaritaville also sponsored the Margaritaville 2011 National Margarita Day Recipe Contest and the winner has been announced. The “Spring Break Beach Margarita,” sent in by Joanne Koeneke took the award with a blend of Passion Fruit & Margaritaville Silver Tequilas mixed fresh fruit. Joanne’s margarita will be featured in U.S. Margaritaville locations, the Margaritaville Beach Hotel and Jimmy Buffett’s at The Beachcomber on February 22nd for National Margarita Day.
