We’re here and we’re going to make a difference. That’s what I hear all the time. Churches around the country are standing up and being counted for. They’re right in your own community and all you have to do is knock on their door if you need help.
Today because of my studies I made it to the gym later than usual. I don’t like to go get out as late as I did but I am trying to lose weight and I have it on the run. Also I feel guilty when I don’t give my best at whatever I do so off I go. Well it was typical as usual at first and I was feeling pretty good of myself for making the effort. After a stimulating workout I head for the steam room or sauna to sweat it out and strange as it seems, relax.
This is where I get to be quiet and let God deal with me. I tell him my woes and pray for strength and whine about being poor which I’m sure he is tired of hearing by now. Here I am sitting in the sauna which is about 170 degrees and sweating it out. As I settled in I saw a familiar face and therefore started a conversation with the usual small talk. But then in walks another guy and that’s when things pick up. The first man’s name is Percy Dove, a veteran of the Army, and faithful member of the gym. We have talked before but today I discovered a whole new man and a Christian. The second man had overheard Percy mention that the church he goes to helps the needy and that’s when he half-heartedly laugh and said I may need to come see you. Well, Percy didn’t let those words hang around for a second and he excited turned to him and told him, please do. The second man remarked that he had gotten a notice to shutoff his utilities and didn’t know where to turn. Percy lit up and almost begged the man to come see him. Come to find out Percy Dove is the secretary of the church and once the need is approved of he writes the check. He went on to tell us that his Church is busier than ever helping people like Doug (the second man).
After the information was given to Doug and he left with offering thanks, Percy told me that he and his Church are not into tooting their own horns because God expects it of them and they are just doing what he has asked them to do. Well they may not toot their own horns but by golly I will. The name of the Church is:
Emmanuel Temple Church
17288 Stoddard Wells Road
Victorville, CA 92394-1625
If you are in need of help whether it is financial, spiritual, or you just need someone to talk to so that you can get through the day, give them a call. Bless them and let them Bless you as we all Bless God by sticking together.
Percy, here is to you and your band of Christians at the Emmanuel Temple Church in Victorville, California.
Toot! Toot! Toot! God Bless and God Speed!
