Cigar King in Scottsdale recently announced that two stars from the cigar industry will be visiting their shop in the coming weeks.
On Friday, February 4th, Jesus Fuego of J. Fuego cigars will be making a return trip to the Valley after swinging through in November. He will be visiting Cigar King for a “Meet the Maker” cigar tasting from 4 – 7 pm. Before releasing his own line of cigars, Fuego worked for Rocky Patel and was responsible for the development of the Vintage 1990 and 1992 lines of cigars. Prior to that, he worked on the development of the Vegueros line of Cuban cigars.
Currently, Fuego has several lines of cigars that have gotten critical acclaim, including his ‘Originals’ line that has been becoming a favorite of in-the-know cigar smokers around the country. These soft packs of five cigars are modelled after how Fuego tests new blends before putting them into production, and are shipped fresh from the factory, often arriving at retail within two weeks of being rolled.
On Thursday, March 10th, Carlos Toraño of Toraño Cigars visits the store from 3 – 7 pm for a cigar tasting and meet-and-greet.
Carlos Toraño’s roots in the tobacco business go back to 1916, when his grandfather emigrated to Cuba from Spain in 1916 to form Toraño y Compania, an outfit that dealt in brokering leaf tobacco. By 1959, the company owned 17 farms throughout Cuba and supplied tobacco to many companies in both Cuba and the United States. After the Cuban government nationalized tobacco farms, his father left the island for the Dominican Republic where he introduced Cuban seed and the tobacco that is now known as ‘Piloto Cubano.’
Following his father’s death, Toraño expanded the company into Nicaragua, Ecuador and Mexico, and has since handed the reins of the company over to his son, Charlie.
