Applesauce is a healthy snack to have. You can use sugar in this recipe, leave it out or use honey in its place. Making your own applesauce is another way to save money on your groceries and save your body from preservatives!
- 3 apples, peeled and cut into small cubes
- Cinnamon, to taste
- Sugar, to taste (optional)
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1/2 tsp ground Ginger
Put apples and spices into a non stick pot over low heat.
Pour in 1 inch of water, cover and simmer.
Stir often and continue adding water so that apples do not burn.
Cook for about 20 minutes, stirring and adding water every 5 minutes.
Remove from heat, add spices, vanilla and sugar and smash when apples are cooked (soft).
For chunkier sauce, mash while warm with fork.
For a smoother sauce, cool until just warm and add into food processor and pulse until you reach the texture you desire.
Eat warm or refrigerate.
*Note: The sweeter the apples, the sweeter the sauce will be.
