Here is more of the same which is putting our nation on the verge of bankruptcy. A few days ago Congress passed a Continuing Resolution to keep funding government for 6 weeks to avert another shutdown. I could write another article claiming how they haven’t passed a budget required by law for over 875 days now but I won’t. Instead I will reprint this article written a few short months ago.
Minutes ago the House passed a budget plan that would fund the country through September 2011. There was bipartisan support for the bill with 260 for and 167 against. Now the bill will move to the Senate where it should pass and move on to the White House for a signature. If signed today or tomorrow the government will avert a shut down Friday night when the Continuing Resolution lapses.
Within the bill will be 38 billion in spending cuts deemed unnecessary at a time when our nation is struggling to keep from falling into another recession. Congressmen and women on both sides hails this as a starting point to get our fiscal house in order. Senator Daniel Inouye stated these cuts were the deepest ever seen in any one budget as he spoke today on the Senate floor.
Our national debt must be reduced if we are to remain a solvent nation. Our nation has to borrow 4 billion dollars a day to keep this government functioning. This nation is traveling down the same path as countries like Greece, Portugal and a host of others which have or are in the process of receiving bailouts to continue operations as they attempt to reduce their countries budgets to remain solvent.
Sacrifices must be made if America wishes to remain a fiscally sound entity in today’s global economy. Congress must rein in the uncontrolled spending habits of the past. They must stop spending what they don’t have as the citizens have had to do to make ends meet in their households.
In Nevada families are doing more with less. Unemployment is at 13.7%, the housing market has collapsed and household goods have risen in prices these past few months, yet many of the citizens are making it by cutting their budgets to make ends meet. The federal government could take lessons on how to do more with less as these citizens have had to do.
Few details have changed since this article was published, unemployment is still high, we still borrow more then we take in at the federal level and that path to bankruptcy is widening with each spending bill passed. Time has come for Americans to make the tough decisions come election day, more spending candidates or candidates that won’t lie to the American Public and make the tough choices needed to save this country from ruin.
