The Academy of Country Music recently announced its nominees for the 46th annual awards show coming up in April. Among those nominees is a category for which fans will have the final say, that is, if you hurry. The deadline to vote for Top New Solo Vocalist is this Thursday, February 24th, noon Eastern Time, which only gives you until 11:00 a.m. here in St. Louis. Nominated in this category are Eric Church, Easton Corbin and Randy Houser.
Country music fans may remember Eric Church most recently for his song, Smoke A Little Smoke, but the two singles that came before actually climbed higher on the Billboard Country charts. Love Your Love the Most and Hell On the Heart both made it into the top ten.
Randy Houser was first known for his song writing efforts on the hit Trace Adkins song, Honky Tonk Badonkadonk, but since he has begun performing his own music, fans will recall his songs Anything Goes as well as his recent top five hit Boots On.
Easton Corbin is probably the best known of these three artists when it comes to popular airplay on St. Louis radio stations. His single I Just Can’t Love You Back peaked at #26 on the country charts, but his earlier hits Roll With It and A Little More Country Than That both went to #1. Easton has gained recognition for his uncanny vocal likeness to the “King of Country”, music legend, George Strait, though Easton is decidedly different in his looks. He is, apparently, among the new brand of cowboys, who prefers to wear a baseball cap rather than traditional cowboy hat.
Will Easton Corbin’s #1 singles give him an edge over the other two men nominated in this category? Only time, and your votes will tell. You may vote online for your favorite up until the deadline on Thursday. The winner of this category will be paired with the winner of the Top New Vocal Duo or Group and go on to vy for the Top New Artist spot. The ACM Awards will air on April 3rd, on St. Louis’ CBS station, KMOV.
Fans of these particular nominees may be excited to know that you also have a chance to see two of them in concert this year. Randy Houser will be appearing at The Blue Note in Columbia this Thursday, February 24th and Eric Church will appear with Jason Aldean at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater on May 13th. Unfortunately, St. Louis fans will have to wait a bit longer to see Easton Corbin unless you’re willing to make the drive to Wichita for his March 19th performance at the Cotillion Ballroom or Indianapolis for his March 25th show at the 8 Seconds Saloon.
