With the 2010-11 NBA All-Star game in the books, it is time to look ahead to the second half of the NBA season and who you should keep an eye on as you head into the fantasy basketball playoffs.
To start it off, here is a look at the top 10 fantasy basketball centers heading into the rest of the season.
1. Dwight Howard, Orlando
Dwight Howard is easily the best center in fantasy basketball. His only downfall is his poor free throw shooting but he is getting better and better every day. He is currently averaging 22.8 points, 13.8 rebounds and has 15 double-doubles in a row, going back to January 21. He has also averaged two blocks a game over the past six.
2. Zach Randolph, Memphis
Zach Randolph has been a fantasy basketball monster this season in Memphis. The center has 38 double-doubles in 51 games this year and you can’t ask for more from a center. He recently suffered an ankle injury but only missed one game and ended up with a double-double in both games after returning to the lineup.
3. David Lee, Golden State
While David Lee may have disappointed many owners who took him in the first round of fantasy basketball drafts, he is still one of the top choices at the center position. He ranks No. 8 in scoring in standard fantasy basketball leagues. He averages 15.9 points and 9.4 rebounds and has the chance to excel down the stretch.
4. Andrea Bargnani, Toronto
Andre Bargnani is a hit or miss guy, scoring all his points in bunches but, when he is on, not many are better. Over the last six games, Bargnani is averaging 29.3 points a game and he is one of the rare centers who is proficient at hitting 3’s. His rebounding numbers are low for his position but he contributes a lot of points.
5 Al Horford, Atlanta
Al Horford is one of the best players on an overachieving Atlanta Hawks team. He averages a double-double, hitting 16.3 points and 10.3 rebounds a game, in Atlanta’s wins while hitting 15.5 and 9.1 in the losses. He currently ranks No. 5 in standard scoring leagues for centers. He ranks in the top 10 for double-doubles as well with 27.
6. DeMarcus Cousins, Sacramento
As a rookie, you have to be careful with DeMarcus Cousins but the guy has put up solid numbers so far this season. He is averaging 14 points and 8.2 rebounds on the season but has started to improve as his rookie year wears on. He has seven double-doubles in his last ten games, breaking 20 points in five of them.
7. Brook Lopez, New Jersey
Brook Lopez was looking to be a one-stat wonder, averaging 19.4 points with only 5.8 rebounds a game so far this season. He is starting to rebound better, going for double-digits in two of the last four games and has five blocks in the last four. He is a solid fantasy basketball start in most leagues.
8. Al Jefferson, Utah
Al Jefferson has 22 double-doubles heading into the All-Star break, averaging 17.4 points and 9.1 rebounds over the season. He is one of the leading scorers among centers in fantasy basketball right now and is averaging 1.9 blocks over his last ten games.
9. Roy Hibbert, Indiana
Roy Hibbert has played himself into a position as a must-start fantasy basketball center. Since Frank Vogel has taken over as head coach at Indiana, Hibbert has turned up the heat. Hibbert is averaging 17.8 points, 7.9 rebounds and shooting 50 percent from the field in the 10 games under Vogel.
10. Andrew Bogut, Milwaukee
Andrew Bogut is in a slump right now but he is good enough to break out at anytime. He is averaging 12.9 points and 11.5 rebounds on the season so don’t let a mini-slump get you down. He has still averaged 12.2 rebounds a game during his slump and it is just his points that are down (7.8 over the last five games).
