With the 2010-11 NBA All-Star game in the books, it is time to look ahead to the second half of the NBA season and who you should keep an eye on as you head into the fantasy basketball playoffs.
To start it off, here is a look at the top 10 fantasy basketball guards heading into the rest of the season.
1. Derrick Rose, Chicago Bulls
Derrick Rose is playing the best ball of his short career. The youngster is averaging 24.9 points and 8.2 assists so far this season. In the last ten games before the break, he was averaging 25.7 points and nine assists. At the All-Star break, Rose was the highest scoring guard in standard fantasy basketball leagues. The kid is Gold.
2. Russell Westbrook, Oklahoma City Thunder
While Kevin Durant owners have seen a slight drop in their player’s points thanks to Russell Westbrook, the OKC guard has become quite the fantasy basketball find himself. Westbrook is averaging 22.2 points and 8.6 assists so far this season. He and Durant are one of the best one-two punches in the NBA.
3. Deron Williams, Utah Jazz
Deron Williams took a lot of criticism for the resignation of head coach Jerry Sloan. However, on the court, he is one of the better fantasy basketball choices at the guard position. Williams is almost averaging a double-double on the season with 21.3 points and 9.7 assists.
4. Rajon Rondo, Boston Celtics
Rajon Rondo missed 11 games thanks to injury but finished the first half of the season averaging a double-double. Rondo has 10.9 points and 12.2 assists a game. While those points are low, he leads the NBA in assists per game and has three triple-doubles this year, something only LeBron James and Russell Westbrook have accomplished.
5. Monta Ellis, Golden State Warriors
Monta Ellis leads the NBA in minutes-per-game with 41.1, while playing in all 55 games this season. He is also averaging 25.3 points, 3.4 rebounds and 5.5 assists on the year. He is one of the NBA’s best 3-point shooters and ranks sixth among guards for fantasy basketball points.
6. Steve Nash, Phoenix Suns
Steve Nash does not seem to be slowing down. He is averaging a double-double on the season with 16.8 points and 11.3 rebounds. Heading into the All-Star break, he had eight double-doubles in the past ten games. Steve Nash is a must-start anytime he takes the court.
7. Dwayne Wade, Miami Heat
It took a little while for them to mesh but the three Miami All-Stars are finally hitting on all cylinders. Dwayne Wade is averaging 25.4 points, 6.9 rebounds and 4.3 assists on the season. While Wade has been dealing with a sore anklr, and tweaked it again at the All-Star game, his point totals have been nothing short of spectacular.
8. Kobe Bryant, Los Angeles Lakers
Kobe Bryant is scoring less fantasy basketball points than he did last season but still remains one of the best choices in the league. He is averaging 25.1 points a game on the season so far with 5.4 rebounds and 4.8 assists a game. He is currently ranked No. 5 among guards in fantasy basketball points so far this season.
9. Chris Paul, New Orleans Hornets
Chris Paul headed into the All-Star break in a minor shooting slump. He is averaging 16.2 points and 9.6 rebounds on the season so far but failed to reach double digits in scoring in two of the last five games. His assists are still high in those games and it is just a matter of time before Paul is back to his role as a fantasy basketball stud.
10. Stephen Curry, Golden State Warriors
Stephen Curry impressed a lot of people in his rookie year and has improved in his sophomore season. He is averaging higher in points (18.4) and assists (6.0) this year and he is hitting a better field goal percentage while turning the ball over less. He also won the skill’s challenge at the All-Star game and is becoming a must start.
