General Hospital’s Ronnie Marmo (Det. Ronnie Dimestico) returns to the stage this weekend with the world premiere of John Patrick Shanley’s Last Night in the Garden I Saw You.
Directed by General Hospital head writer, Bob Guza, the play opened this evening at Hollywood’s Theatre 68, where Marmo is also creative director. The show co-stars Rebecca Reid, and each performance includes Shanley’s critically-acclaimed Savage in Limbo, directed by Richard Cox..
John Patrick Shanley has an impressive body of work, including the Academy Award-winning 1987 screenplay, Moonstruck and was director and writer of 1990’s Joe Versus the Volcano, starring Tom Hanks. Most recently, he directed the film Doubt, starring Meryl Streep, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Amy Adams. Shanley wrote the play version, Doubt: A Parable, which was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, the Drama Desk Award and the Tony Award for Best Play.
Ronnie shared that Shanley is his favorite writer, and he credits him with his pursuit of acting.
The show has a limited engagement with seven additional performances, the next tomorrow night, Saturday, January 22nd at 8 PM with repeat performances January 27, 28, 29 and February 3, 4 and 5, all at 8 PM. Tickets are $15.
