Genesis 1:3 – …God said…
Genesis 1:3 begins, “And God said…” The name Elohiym is the name used for God in this verse. This plural name used once again in a singular fashion is indicative of the unity and power of God – Father, Word (Son), and Spirit.
We generally think of ‘God’ in this verse as the Father speaking, however, this does not negate the unity in which He is speaking. We must understand what speaking actually is. When we speak, we send forth our words. When God speaks, He sends forth The Word.
John 1:1-3 (NKJV)
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 He was in the beginning with God.
3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.
We see here, Father spoke, and The Word proceeded forth. The Word would not have proceeded forth if The Word was not in unity with the Father.
This is also an example of Jesus’ ministry upon this earth.
John 1:14 (NKJV)
14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.
John 5:19-30 (NKJV)
19 Then Jesus answered and said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do; for whatever He does, the Son also does in like manner.
20 “For the Father loves the Son, and shows Him all things that He Himself does; and He will show Him greater works than these, that you may marvel.
21 “For as the Father raises the dead and gives life to them, even so the Son gives life to whom He will.
22 “For the Father judges no one, but has committed all judgment to the Son,
23 “that all should honor the Son just as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent Him.
24 “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life.
25 “Most assuredly, I say to you, the hour is coming, and now is, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God; and those who hear will live.
26 “For as the Father has life in Himself, so He has granted the Son to have life in Himself,
27 “and has given Him authority to execute judgment also, because He is the Son of Man.
28 “Do not marvel at this; for the hour is coming in which all who are in the graves will hear His voice
29 “and come forth––those who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of condemnation.
30 “I can of Myself do nothing. As I hear, I judge; and My judgment is righteous, because I do not seek My own will but the will of the Father who sent Me.
The Lord Jesus Christ, the Word of God made flesh, proceeded at the behest of our Father and did only what He saw Father do. Our Lord Jesus Christ acted in complete unity with Father as He walked upon this earth in physical form.
Is it our heart’s desire to walk in the love and power that Jesus walked? Think this not impudent, but a fulfillment of our Father’s will concerning every one of us.
Psalm 37:4-6 (NKJV)
4 Delight yourself also in the LORD, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
5 Commit your way to the LORD, Trust also in Him, And He shall bring it to pass.
6 He shall bring forth your righteousness as the light, And your justice as the noonday.
God is telling us that we are to delight ourselves in Him, and He will give us the desires of our hearts. God is not just saying He will give us the things we need and ask of Him. God is telling us that when we delight in walking with Him and spending time living in His presence He will put His desires into our hearts. When we delight in Him and receive His desires in our hearts, we are to commit our way to our Lord. We are to trust our God, no matter what goes along to help us or what comes against us. As we delight, commit and trust, God will bring it to pass.
This is how we walk in unity with God the same way our Lord Jesus Christ walked in unity with God. This is how the Word went forth when Father spoke, “Light be.” This is how Jesus walked with only the authority He originally gave Adam, and yet did so many marvelous works and brought the Life of God to so many. This is also how we are to live, following Jesus example.
When Father speaks and says, “Go.” We are to go.
When Father speaks and says, “Pray.” We are to pray.
When Father speaks and says, “Love.” We are to love.
Remember, Jesus is the One who prayed that we would be one in unity, with each other, and one in unity with God.
John 17:1-26 (NKJV; emphasis added)
1 Jesus spoke these words, lifted up His eyes to heaven, and said: “Father, the hour has come. Glorify Your Son, that Your Son also may glorify You,
2 “as You have given Him authority over all flesh, that He should give eternal life to as many as You have given Him.
3 “And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.
4 “I have glorified You on the earth. I have finished the work which You have given Me to do.
5 “And now, O Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was.
6 “I have manifested Your name to the men whom You have given Me out of the world. They were Yours, You gave them to Me, and they have kept Your word.
7 “Now they have known that all things which You have given Me are from You.
8 “For I have given to them the words which You have given Me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came forth from You; and they have believed that You sent Me.
9 “I pray for them. I do not pray for the world but for those whom You have given Me, for they are Yours.
10 “And all Mine are Yours, and Yours are Mine, and I am glorified in them.
11 “Now I am no longer in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to You. Holy Father, keep through Your name those whom You have given Me, that they may be one as We are.
12 “While I was with them in the world, I kept them in Your name. Those whom You gave Me I have kept; and none of them is lost except the son of perdition, that the Scripture might be fulfilled.
13 “But now I come to You, and these things I speak in the world, that they may have My joy fulfilled in themselves.
14 “I have given them Your word; and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.
15 “I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but that You should keep them from the evil one.
16 “They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.
17 “Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.
18 “As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world.
19 “And for their sakes I sanctify Myself, that they also may be sanctified by the truth.
20 “I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word;
21 “that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me.
22 “And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one:
23 “I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me.
24 “Father, I desire that they also whom You gave Me may be with Me where I am, that they may behold My glory which You have given Me; for You loved Me before the foundation of the world.
25 “O righteous Father! The world has not known You, but I have known You; and these have known that You sent Me.
26 “And I have declared to them Your name, and will declare it, that the love with which You loved Me may be in them, and I in them.”
