With every newspaper article and headline, we are seeing one devastation after another of Biblical proportions. We see earthquakes, floods, hurricanes and tornadoes. With each passing event we are told that these are the effects of Global Warming. And with this interpretation comes the ominous warning that we need to stop driving SUV’s, shut down factories, cut back on our lavish life styles, and give more money to the government to avert this coming disaster. We are told that we are to blame because Global Warming is due to man’s presence on this earth. On this last point alone, I am here to explain that the Global Warming crowd is absolutely correct, we are to blame. But not for the reasons they give. They have arrived at the right conclusion for the wrong reason.
I expect that many of my readers will be quick to disagree with me on the idea that Climate Change is man made. I expect that many informed readers will point out that a single volcanic eruption puts more gases into the atmosphere than all the SUV’s combined. I suspect that many others will be quick to point out Climate-gate, the disclosure of various emails revealing how climate change data was manipulated. Others will point out, and accurately so, that this Climate Change used to be called Global Warming, proving that our so-called scientists do not really know. Others will remind me of Al Gore and his infamous fiat currency called carbon credits. None of these arguments phase me; I hold my position. My proof is not from the scientists; it is from scripture.
From the depths of Deuteronomy chapter eleven, we find this exhortation:
“Make sure you do not turn away to serve and worship other gods! Then the anger of the Lord will erupt against you and he will close up the sky so that it does not rain. The land will not yield its produce, and you will soon be removedfrom the good land that the Lordis about to give you.”
Here we see God using climate change to bring about His ends. When we do not obey his commandments, we experience problems so that “the land will not yield its produce.”
While the above passage is all “gloom and doom,” this is not all the words of God that this scripture records. The Lord promises that when we do right, He will bless us abundantly.
“ … the land you are … to occupyis one of hills and valleys, a land that drinks in water from the rains,a land the Lord your God looks after. He is constantly attentive to itfrom the beginning to the end of the year. Now, if you pay close attentionto my commandments that I am giving you today and love the Lord your God and serve him with all your mind and being, then he promises, “I will send rain for your land in its season, the autumn and the spring rains, so that you may gather in your grain, new wine, and olive oil. I will provide pasturefor your livestock and you will eat your fill.”
This passage of scripture is not alone. Any dutiful reader will find this theme repeated over and over again.
My more knowledgeable readers will point out that this promise was given to the ancient Israelites, not to us in these modern times. True, but I would like to point out that scripture is basically a window into the character of God. If God dealt with a nation in the past by manipulating the earth’s climate, why would we not expect him to do the same for our generation?
We also learn from scripture that our God is a God of faithfulness. He does not abandon us forever when we do wrong. Fortunately for us, God does not abort His children the way we abort ours!
There you have it! The proof is overwhelming! Global Warming … or Climate Change — whatever you prefer to call it — is man-made! It is caused by our sinful behaviors. Though the best and most accurate term to use to refer to this phenomena is simply Global Sinning!
