Remember those gorgeous outfits that consisted mostly of maxi skirts and maxi dresses paired up with hats and flats that Brigitte Bardot wore on the 70’s? Or how about the really long skirts that were iconic during the 90’s grunge vibe? …Clarissa explains it all, Cher Horowitz (Clueless), Rachel Green (Friends first seasons) and Carrie Bradshaw (Sex in the City first seasons) rocked them in different ways.
Well… those maxi skirts are back.
Since last year, a lot of designers sent maxi skirts and maxi dresses to the runway, and although we didn’t see them that much out on the streets, seems they wanted them back this season too. Jil Sander made them in bright colors; Lanvin went for transparent and silk fabrics; D&G did denim maxi skirts; Calvin Klein, Derek Lam, Etro and Bottega Veneta among others, made them incredibly vaporous and fresh, moving from side to side as models walked by.
If you’re looking to change your style a little bit this spring, why don’t you try the maxi skirt trend and leave the mini skirts behind for a little while; many celebrities are doing it: Kate Bosworth, Alexa Chung, Erin Wasson, Kate Hudson, Nichole Richie, Olivia Palermo and the list goes on.
HOW TO WEAR THEM:
If you’re lean and tall, this trend is definitely for you in any possible way you decide to wear it; pair them up with fierce gladiator flats or Dr. Marten’s boots; try it with oversized sweaters or cropped tops. And if you’re petite, don’t be afraid to wear them, as long as you’re wearing high heels or platforms and keep the length of the skirt almost to the ground. Maxi dresses are Rachel Zoe’s signature and she’s just above 5 ft. tall.
WHERE TO WEAR THEM:
It’s wonderful that you can either wear them by day or night. Accessorize them with big hats and bracelets, flats or wedges when you go out for lunch, a walk on the beach or on a shopping spree with your friends. And by night, loose the hat and put on some high heels or platforms, a statement jewelry piece such as big earrings, big necklace or big chunky bracelets (just pick one though) and let loose your long hair to accomplish that Brigitte Bardot sensual essence.
