All games have heroes, and this year’s games are no different. No matter what the threat there will always be a hero around to fight it. Rather it be aliens that turn people into undead-like beings, an ancient evil that has plagued the world for years, a ghost that can kill with psychic abilities, or a race of sapient constructions that destroy life every 50,000 years heroes will always be there to fight the good fight. Here are a few of the brave souls to look forward to this year.
Issac Clark (Dead Space 2)
This hero is really just a person put in a bad situation. Three years he fought for survival against a race of aliens known as Necromorphs on Aegis VII. At the end of the first game Issac had managed to get away from the necromorphs only to run into a phantom of what appeared to be a necromorph that was his girlfriend. This however, seemed to nothing more then a trick of the mind. Once he was found he was sent to asylum on a space station called The Sprawl. His trouble doesn’t end there since it appears that a second necromorph outbreak will occur on The Sprawl. Only time will tell if he survives this next outbreak, and the wait will not be long since Dead Space 2 comes out next Tuesday January 25.
Link (The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword)
Some heroes are just born time and time again for greatness, and Link happens to be one such hero. Link, either as a child or an adult, has been known to fight Ganondorf and save a certain princess named Zelda. This hero also represent the the triforce of courage, and truth be told Link really is just a name. The hero know as Link is actually different people that happens to look the exact same, and act the same as a another Link. Despite this Link really is a great hero that deserves great credited for his accomplishments. Unfortunately the exact release date for this game is not known, but it is assumed that it will be released this year.
The Point Man (FEAR 3)
Like all people heroes tend to have family issues, and the figure known as the Point Man is no different. Most of his issues steam from his mother Alma Wade. Alma was once a human born with psychic abilities, and it is said abilities that help led to her insanity, but the key words about Alma was that she was once human. Now Alma is a ghost that appears as a little girl or and adult who happens to be a mass murderer. In addition to this she is know pregnant (somehow) with Michael Becket’s child. Point Man’s family trouble doesn’t just stick with his mother in FEAR 3, and this is due to his half brother Paxton Fettel. Both brothers will be playable when FEAR 3 is released in May.
Commander Shepard (Mass Effect 3)
Heroes fight against all odds in order to safe that which they hold dear. Commander Shepard has fought against the threat of the Reapers since the first game. He was even killed by the Reaper controlled Collectors, and yet he was brought back to fight both the Reapers and stop the Collectors. Rather or not he is a paragon or renegade Shepard will have a long fight against machine like creatures that have devastated the galaxy for at least 2.8 million years. Shepard’s troubles get even worse in the third game since it appears the Reapers attack Earth, but that is something players are going to have to wait for since Mass Effect 3 will not be out until sometime in the holiday season.
Heroes can either be born or made other time. Both types of creation help make video games great, and the reason people keep playing. All games need heroes rather they fight some ancient evil or creatures bent on destruction, and not matter the reason gamers will continue to play games and hope for the best ending for the game’s heroes.
