When we think of dogs some think cute, fun, and enjoyable. But, that’s with only certain breeds. When we say Pit Bull the first thing that comes in to our heads is the last attack that happens. The judgment on that breed because of something that happened doesn’t seem to fair. That is like racial profiling. A dog only reacts to what his owner has pushed into them. This usually comes in the form of abuse for some. The Pit Bull has been around for a long time. The earliest known ancestors to the American Pit Bull Terrier were used for guards and draft animals, but they were esteemed as dogs of war. The Greeks called their huge, ferocious dogs a type called Mollossian. This in term means large mastiff type dog. These types of dogs used to fight alongside their owners in time of war. The Mastiff-like dogs were not only used for war but the British butchers used their massive size to round up and pen oxen.
The Bulldog was used to fight bulls and bears. George R. Jessie, a famous canine historian, wrote that the Bulldog was created by a select type of Mastiff breeding. The Mastiffs produce a smaller, more agile dog with a recessed nose and a protruding jaw. With these types of traits it allowed the dog to breathe freely while holding the bull. At one time in the 1980s the Washington legislative was having a meeting to see if a statewide banishment of all bulldog breeds. The vice-president of the American Kennel Club said that there was no such thing as a Pit Bull because they do not have one registered.
Obviously he did not do his homework on the history of the pit bull. If he had he would have known that the American Staffordshire that is registered in the AKC was brother to the pit bull. The pit bull has just been miss read for a long time. Maybe we haven’t given them a fair chance. The human race turned a breed that was used for good into something awful and became a way to entertain and make money. They took what little voice the dog had away and not give them a choice whether to do well. We have made them bad by in slaving them. The pit bull hasn’t done any more aggressively that a human wouldn’t do in the same circumstance. If you back an animal or a human into a corner and force it to get mad what do you think it’s going to do? Everything whether human or animal will come out fighting. It’s either fight or die. Its’ better to fight than cower in the corner and die. So with knowing that the breed of dog wouldn’t do any more than any human tortured and abused. Should we punish the breed or the deed that a person has caused the animal to do because of abuse.
