Who couldn’t use someone to help them get things done?! I know that I think about it hourly how nice it would be if someone could just run this errand for me or book this trip or whatever it may be.
Apparently I am not alone because this is why Lauren Klapper created Fetch. As they describe it, their mission is to “preserve your precious time”. Amen to that!
I grew up in the same hometown with Lauren and while we were in different grades, I always knew her to have impeccable style and very well connected. This feels like a perfect fit for her. Or as she says, it is for right now.
Here is her story:
Tell me about what you do for work.
I recently started a Personalized Concierge Business called Fetch. We specialize in Personal Shopping, Errand Running and Personal Assistant by the hour. Our mission is to give our clients back a precious commodity, time!
What type of work were you doing prior to what you are doing now?
Prior to starting Fetch, I was working for a chain of Retail Stores in the Corporate office as a Buyer and Corporate Manager. I have always worked for start-up’s which required me to wear many hats and always involved high levels of customer service, so Fetch was an easy and natural transition.
What kinds of frustrations did you have with your previous job(s)?
I really enjoyed my previous job. At the time it was the perfect fit for me. My biggest frustrations came with my lifestyle at the time. My position required me to travel a lot, which left me very little time for myself. My challenge was finding the balance between my professional and personal life ……which brings me to the next question.
How did you come to discover this was what you were meant to do?
Funny…..I still am not sure if this is what I am meant to do. I do love it right now, and happy that I followed my instinct.
As I mentioned above, I was frustrated with working crazy hours. I often found myself wishing I had an assistant.
” if only ….my fridge was filled after a week out of town”
” if only….. I had someone to pick up my LBD before the dry cleaner closes”
” if only……there was someone to wait for my new TV delivery while I am at work”
I learned quickly that I was not the only one that felt overwhelmed. My “if only’s”…became my a ha moment.
What fears did you have to overcome to take the leap?
Where to begin- the fear of failure, the fear of perception, the fear of not having a constant paycheck- the list goes on! It was really scary for me. I remember when I first launched my website how nervous I was that people would not be receptive. At the end of the day, I realized I had nothing to loose.
What do you love most about what you do?
There is so much I love about what I do. I love the building of the business. My favorite thing about start-up’s is to see an idea blossom. I love that no two days are the same. I love being my own boss. Mostly, it is fun to work with an array of clients with different needs. The BEST part is knowing that I am giving my clients the TIME to enjoy what really matters in life.
If you were to give advice to people thinking about changing careers, what would it be?
To follow their dreams and take chances.
