Soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo’s genetically gifted supermodel girlfriend Irina Shayk may grace the cover of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue 2011, but there was plenty of room on the pages inside for several international athletes representing the United States, Paraguay, and Brazil.
Leryn Franco, Kim Glass, and Bruna Schmitz are three female athletes who look amazing whether they are working up a sweat in their professions or posing in skimpy bikinis on the pages of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue 2011.
Leryn Franco is 28 years old; she is a javelin thrower from Paraguay who competed in both the 2004 and 2008 Olympics. In 2006, Franco was also the first runner-up for Miss Universo Paraguay. Her modeling career received a boost from her Olympic exposure.
The Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue 2011 marks Leryn Franco’s first appearance in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. Franco was photographed by Stephan Wurth in Banff, Canada. She wears a bikini by SUGAR FREE on her Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue debut.
Kim Glass is 26-years-old; she is an American indoor volleyball player. Glass won a silver medal in the 2008 Olympic Games. She was born in Los Angeles, California and was raised in Pennsylvania. Glass returned west to play volleyball for the University of Arizona where she became the school’s career leader in kills and aces.
Kim Glass had aspirations of becoming a successful model long before her SI debut. She auditioned for America’s Next Top Model five times. Like Leryn Franco, this is Kim’s debut appearance in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. The photo of Kim Glass was taken by Stephan Wurth in Banff, Canada. She wears a bikini by Letarte by Lisa Cabrinha in her Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue 2011 photo.
Bruna Schmitz is a 20-year-old professional surfer from Salto do Lontra, Brazil. Schmitz began surfing at the tender age of nine. In 2003 Schmitz won the Billabong Pro Junior title. She was the youngest athlete ever to win a professional event in her native country of Brazil.
Bruna Schmitz’s sponsors include Roxy and Lui Lui shoes. She is currently a surfer on the ASP Women’s World Tour. Like her fellow athletes on the pages of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue 2011, this is Schmitz’s first appearance in the SI Swimsuit Issue. Schmitz was photographed by Stephan Wurth in Banff, Canada wearing a bikini by Vix Swimwear, Inc.
The cover model for last year’s Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue was Adam Sandler’s “Just Go With It” co-star Brooklyn Decker. That issue also featured the lovely and talented skier Lindsey Vonn.
