Janet Jackson isn’t relevant? Who said that jibberish? The 44 year old Ms. Jackson’s latest (may we add, largest world tour ever (The “Number Ones, Up Close and Personal Tour”), has sold out across North America. Janet, who announced back in late November that she will embark on her largest tour to date, will perform in 35 cities in honor of her ‘Number 1’s’ compilation CD, where she would also let her fans choose the cities. Who does that?<<<< (good sarcasim).
Janet initially was suppose to perform in Europe, and Asia, but after realizing how much reaction and fan-demands were on an all high, Ms. Jackson had to add some North American dates. By no chance are these tickets cheap neither. Some fans reported paying as much as $1200 for VIP-front row tickets.
Since Janet’s tickets went up for grabs (on the market), she has sold out in record times–some being sold out in as fast as 10 minutes after going up for sale. Janet’s tickets has been selling so much like hotcakes, that the diva had to add additional dates on several legs of her North American tour. Here are the additional dates Janet had to add:
Hidalgo, TX March 3
State Farm Arena
Austin, TX April 4
Austin City Limits
Live at Moody Theater
Omaha, NE April 5
Additional performances have been added to the following cities:
Chicago, Il March 9
Toronto, On, Canada March 13
Sony Center for the Performing Arts
New York, NY March 21
Radio City Music Hall
Washington DC March 24
DAR Constitution Hall
Los Angeles, CA April 16
San Francisco, CA April 20
Bill Graham Civic Auditorium
Janet Jackson’s official website, www.janetjackson.com, sold over 96% of the presale tickets for the North America Tour on the first day of presales. The “Number Ones, Up Close and Personal Tour” is the first time Janet has hit the road since her record-breaking appearance at The Essence Music Festival. These performances will be Janet’s largest ever world tour celebrating, for the first time, the Icon’s 35 number one hits in 35 global cities. Janet still holds the record for the most successful debut concert tour by a recording artist with her 1990 “Rhythm Nation Tour” and is continuing to shatter records.
Janet enlisted her fans to help schedule the cities of her largest tour yet. Fans submitted suggestions to www.janetjackson.com to have their city selected. Janet will kick off the start of her tour February 4th in Manila, Philippines. This tour will focus on venues that will allow Janet to be up close and personal in a much more intimate setting. In each selected city Janet will offer something different to her performance so no show will be the same.
In each of the 35 cities Janet will recognize 20 young people under 20 whose lives and work have enriched their communities in a major way. “I want to meet 20 young leaders who are changing their communities for the better. I’m asking my fans and their friends, parents, relatives, neighbors and teachers to nominate five people to qualify as one of the 20 under 20 in each city. The 20 people chosen and the person who nominated them will be VIP guests at my show. I will invite the 20 sponsors and the 20 winners to the concert and backstage. There are many young people changing the word and I want them to be recognized during my tour. I want to learn from them how they are changing the world. You all know someone who is making a difference, so get in touch. You can nominate them on www.janetjackson.com,” said the Icon.
Janet is nominated for a Best Actress NAACP Image Award for her performance in “Why Did I Get Married Too.” For which she also co wrote the theme song, “Nothing.” The ballad achieved number one iTunes status. “Nothing” is in contention for best original song in a motion picture according to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences ®. Janet currently stars in Tyler Perry’s successful and critically acclaimed motion picture, “For Colored Girls.”
Janet’s upcoming book, “True You” is being published by Karen Hunter Publishing, an imprint of Gallery Books at Simon & Schuster. “True You” will be in stores on February 15. Janet’s first book will reveal her unique, never before revealed perspective on self esteem. “True You” chronicles Janet’s lifelong struggles with weight and self-esteem. Though not a biography, Janet shares intimate stories from her past, present and until now private communications, from her fans on their mutual struggles “We took this journey together and if my fans had not been so open with me about their problems, I don’t believe I would have been able to share this truth,” Janet said.
“True You” features information from Janet’s personal nutritionist, David Allen, a detailed food and menu plane including never before published recipes, created specially for Janet, by Chef Andre of Kathy Ireland Worldwide’s Acafe, and finally Janet’s personal journey with her long time and award winning, personal trainer, Tony Martinez.
“Everyone is not blessed to have someone like Tony who makes being healthy and fit fun. Being able to share Tony’s gifts with my fans, especially young people, is very motivating to me. Tony is a genius,” Janet continued. The book is a self-help, healing guide of hope where Janet will use anecdotes from her life to illustrate the power of self acceptance and love.
Some spectators (haters), had stressed the reason for Janet’s tour selling out, is due to smaller venues she’s playing–but we would like to debunk those reasons seeing that all of these additional dates being added, equates to a larger audience = a big arena if she had went that route. Janet’s reason for playing smaller venues, is because she wants her show to be more “intimate”, and to become more connected to her fans. But sorry Orlando, no dates for us, infact, no dates in Florida! If any of us wants to see Ms Jackson, we would have to travel to the next closest city; Atlanta.
