Janet’s Montana Café is located at 2506 Alpine Blvd, in Alpine, CA. Clearly, from the name, it is more than a simple bakery. They do a great breakfast. They do lunch and they also do very good dinners. The meals are all prepared from scratch, and are very good. I’ve been to Janet’s too many times to recall the exact number, but I only remember a breakfast prepared just south of perfect once.
Portions will feed the average citizen for 2-3 days, so if you prorate the list price over the two days, the sticker price isn’t bad. Service is exceptionally good from entry time till your food arrives and your drink is kept full most of the time. I also like that the bill is delivered quickly so if you want to get in and out quickly you can. The atmosphere is Montana. Rustic throughout with patio dinning complete with water falling from a rock or two and meandering along a riverbed for your pleasure.
My mission is to find the best in bakery goodies. You can get pie by the slice or whole. They do many pies…pumpkin, cherry, banana cream, chocolate cream, peanut butter, chocolate, apple, boysenberry, coconut cream, lemon cream cheese, pecan, chocolate pecan, and to any diabetics delight, they offer apple, and blueberry with no sugar added. For the best taste get the fruit pies when the fruits are at the peak of their respective seasons. If you don’t see the flavor you’re looking for in the case, Janet will prepare that special pie with enough advance time for your pleasure.
As for other desserts, they offer fudge brownies, chocolate Montana cake, homemade vanilla or strawberry ice cream, raspberry lemon cream cake, brownie sundae (which is homemade brownie with walnuts, homemade vanilla ice cream, chocolate syrup and whipped cream), carrot cake, cheese cake – plain or strawberry, chocolate chip cookie sundae (which is a huge chocolate chip cookie, homemade vanilla ice cream, chocolate syrup and whipped cream), and a very good looking waffle sundae, I say that because I’ve only seen it I have yet to order it. The waffle sundae is a Belgian waffle, with homemade vanilla ice cream, banana, chopped pecans, whipped cream and your choice of chocolate or caramel topping. This dish ought only be attempted by 2-3 folks with a good sweet tooth and reasonable appetites. They also do great pecan caramel bread pudding. You can create an ala mode posture for an additional $2.95 and again it’s for generous portions and it’s homemade.
I’ll give Janet’s Montana Café ( http://janetscafealpine.com/ ) all five stars, for service, taste, and price because are all exceptional.
