Jared Loughner update: Friend says Loughner ‘Looks like a Monster’ (latest videos)
A friend of alleged Arizona shooting suspect Jared Loughner spoke with ABC today regarding their relationship. Zach Osler attended high school with the Arizona shooting suspect and said that things with his friend changed when a relationship with a girl ended. When asked about Jared Loughner’s mug shot he said, “I can’t look at that picture of him. He looks like a monster.”
Denying any connection between Loughner and political groups, Zach Osler indicated that a mental decline fueled by drugs and alcohol was most likely the motive of Loughner’s bloody rampage. He said that Loughner had experimented with the legal hallucinogen Salvia and described how he tried to warn Loughner about the impact it was having on him.
Another friend of Jared Loughner’s, Zane Gutierrez, spoke with the New York Times and described Loughner as an expert shooter who suffered hallucinations.
“If he had a gun pointed at me, there is nothing I could do because he would make it count,” said Zane Gutierrez told the Times. “He was quick.” Continuing, Zane said, “He was a nihilist and loves causing chaos, and that is probably why he did the shooting, along with the fact he was sick in the head.”
In regards to the hallucinations Zane Gutierrez witnessed he said, “He would ask me constantly, ‘Do you see that blue tree over there?’ He would admit to seeing the sky as orange and the grass as blue. “Normal people don’t talk about that stuff…Jared felt nothing existed but his subconscious. The dream world was what was real to Jared, not the day-to-day of our lives.”
After a while, the hallucinations and strange talk proved to be too much for Zane Gutierrez to handle. He described how Jared Loughner’s delusions began to invade his personal life, “He would call me at 2 a.m. and asked, ‘Are you hanging out in front of my house, stalking me?’”
Speaking about himself and another friend Gutierrez continued, “He started to get really paranoid, and said he did not want to see us anymore and did not trust us. He thought we were plotting to kill him or steal his car.”
