For the time will come when you will say, ‘Blessed are the childless women, the wombs that never bore and the breasts that never nursed! Jesus Christ (Luke 23:29)
“I cannot refrain from saying that women must come to recognize there is some function of womanhood other than being a child-bearing machine.” Margaret Sanger, What Every Girl Should Know 1915
With these resounding words from Margret Sanger, the founder of Planned Parenthood, the largest perpetrator of abortion in the world, “legalized infanticide” was ushered into mainstream America. As prophesied by Jesus himself 1900 years beforehand, Ms. Sanger and the generations of abortion proponents, in the name of sexual fulfillment, have transformed the blessing of motherhood into a curse to be eradicated from the womb at any cost. What God had created to be the greatest blessing upon mankind, Sanger and her followers degraded it into a disease on par with cancer to be totally eliminated from the womb! This repulsiveness toward life was encapsulated clearly by Dr. Warren Hern in the Jan 1971 “Family Planning Perspective,” (human pregnancy is)“an episodic, moderately extended chronic condition … May be defined as an illness … Treated by evacuation of the uterine contents…”
Planned Parenthood has taken abortion from a nineteenth century back-alley procedure performed primarily on prostitutes who viewed pregnancy as an annoying inconvenience that interrupted their flow of income and wealthy women who could not afford to have an illegitimate child interrupting their adulterous lifestyle. Further, after the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision, the highest levels of our government at the federal state and local levels embrace abortion as a mainstream women’s rights issue. Even in the highest office of the land our president was elected by a willing electorate despite pro-abortion statements such as: “If you believe that life begins at conception, then I can’t change your mind. I think there is a large agreement, for example, that late-term abortions are really problematic and there should be a regulation. And it should only happen in terms of the mother’s life or severe health consequences…”(The Caucus Blog of the NY Times 10/6/2007)
From the clandestine abortion environment of the 1800’s to today, abortion has taken its place in the mainstream such that, in Planned Parenthood’s on literature“1 out of 3 women in the U.S. will have an abortion by the time they are 45 years old.” According to the Center for Bio-Ethical Reform website, 1.37 million abortions were performed in 1996 (approximately 3700 per day) and as of the end of 2005 this number is down to 1.21 million (approximately 3300 per day). Since the Roe v. Wade court case was settled on January 22, 1973, approximately 45 million babies have been “legally” killed by abortionists and their accomplices.
In South Carolina, according to Department of Health and Environmental Control statistics, over 225,000 babies have been aborted since 1973 (data missing for 1983, 1986, 1989, 1990, 1993, 1994, 1997, 19982001-2003, 2006-2010). In my natural mind it appears an insurmountable obstacle to believe for an end to this horrible practice given that even many Christians have adopted the attitude that abortion is neither their problem nor their responsibility and one out of every five women who abort in the U.S. identifies herself as a born-again/evangelical Christian! However, my God can do anything, and abortion will be on His time and His way.
All we can do until God moves to end this tragedy is pray and believe that whatever we ask according to God’s will, will be heard from heaven and answered according to God’s perfect will. God creates life and does not desire it to be taken by anyone but Himself. Further, we must choose to believe the entire word of God about the issues of life. There is no room to be lukewarm on this issue.
In an open letter to Pastor Rick Warren, the highly influential pastor of Saddleback Church in Southern California, the outspoken Pro-life Group, Center for Bio-Ethical Reform states, “Shedding the innocent blood of children prompts God to declare in Jeremiah 7:16, “As for you, do not pray for this people, or lift up a cry or prayer for them, and do not intercede with me, for I will not hear you.” Might that passage also apply to tolerating the shedding of the innocent blood of unborn children?” idol worship including offerings to Molech. “The people of Judah have done evil in my eyes, declares the Lord. They have set up their detestable idols in the house that bears my Name and have defiled it. They have built the high places of Topheth in the Valley of Ben Hinnom to burn their sons and daughters in the fire–something I did not command, nor did it enter my mind. So beware, the days are coming, declares the Lord, when people will no longer call it Topheth or the Valley of Ben Hinnom, but the Valley of Slaughter, for they will bury the dead in Topheth until there is no more room. Then the carcasses of this people will become food for the birds of the air and the beasts of the earth, and there will be no one to frighten them away. I will bring an end to the sounds of joy and gladness and to the voices of bride and bridegroom in the towns of Judah and the streets of Jerusalem, for the land will become desolate.”(Jer. 7:30-34)
God has burdened my heart with the almost unnoticed murder of millions of our unborn children in the womb through “legalized,” abortion. Aside from the statistics which seem to come up in every article and debate over this issue, it is appalling to this observer how callous most on either side of the debate are about the issue. In my spirit, I sense that the debate has become so political, religious and legal that many pro-life advocates have forgotten the enormity of the sin we all are guilty of before God. Christians have struggled so long with the “left-right” political debate that the words, “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.”(Gen 1:27), have blended into the background as protest signs and name calling have taken center-stage. As followers of Christ, we must not, however, forget that it is our responsibility to stand firm against abortion in all its forms. We must be obedient to God’s word on this issue because one day each of us will have to answer to our Heavenly Father.
My prayer. Father forgive us please for murdering more than 45 million babies since our government willfully disobeyed your law and made abortion “legal” in the United States. Please forgive also the murder of a quarter of a million babies in South Carolina and over a third in the Holy City of Charleston. We have collectively worshipped at the feet of Molech and savagely sacrificed our children to the idle of lust, convenience, selfishness and greed. We deserve nothing but your unrelenting punishment for our sinfulness and ask humbly for mercy. Help us Father on our journeys back to wholeness through repentance. Help us work out our salvation through fear and trembling. Grant us time Lord, to take back the United States from the darkness that has overwhelmed her through our acquiescence and disobedience. I pray in all humbleness on behalf of Christians around the world, whose eyes remain closed and hearts hardened to the issue of abortion. I beg you Father to open their eyes and soften their hearts and call them back to you. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
