One of MSNBC’s most popular personalities, Keith Olbermann, leaves MSNBC and it is unclear why. Some reports indicate he was fired and news of Olbermann’s departure is a hot topic on the Internet.
The AP reports, “Friday night Keith Olbermann returned from one last commercial break on his “Countdown” show to tell viewers it was his last broadcast. He read a James Thurber short story in a three-minute exit statement. The cable network reportedly says only that its contract with the outspoken liberal commentator has ended and it wishes him well.”
ABC News reports, “NBC said the move had nothing to do with next week’s takeover of NBC universal by Comcast, and for its part, Comcast says it was not their doing, saying we pledged from the day the deal was announced that we would not interfere with NBC Universal’s news operations, we have not and will not.”
TMZ.com reports, “Sources connected with the network tell us … Comcast honchos did not like Keith’s defiance and the way he played in the sandbox.”
In November Keith Olbermann had been suspended without pay for contributing money to three Democratic campaigns. Still many viewers are shocked at Keith Olbermann leaving MSNBC and were shocked when he signed off. According to the New York Times the terms of his departure do not allow Olbermann to work for another network for a certain period of time.
