Denver amateur standout and 2012 Olympic Boxing Team hopeful “King Louie” Byrd, welcomed his first child, daughter Amillia Lee Byrd, five lbs. eleven ounces into this world yesterday morning, while former amateur standout and now popular professional Shawn “Bones” Nichol (5-2, 5 KO’s) announced finally finding someone to get in the ring with him.
Both Byrd and Nichol have been patiently counting the minutes until the arrival of their first children, a daughter (Byrd) and son (Nichol) that were both scheduled to arrive in mid-February, with Nichol still waiting for his bundle of joy to arrive.
Proud grandpa Jeff Byrd said, “This is the proudest and happiest day of my life. Louie thinks Amillia Lee will be spending lots of time with him, and she will, but she’s gonna be with her grandpa Jeff more time than everyone thinks”!
“King Louie” Byrd is still amazed at how beautiful his daughter is and just says over, and over again, “Isn’t she beautiful”?
I still can’t tell who’s more excited, new dad “King Louie” Byrd, or new grandpa Jeff Byrd with the arrival of Amilla Lee Byrd.
CONGRATULATIONS are in order for the entire Byrd Family.
Now nervously anticipating the arrival of his son, Shawn Nichol has finally found someone willing to take him on in the ring.
This Friday night (February 25, 2011) at the Doubletree Hotel in Ontario, California, Thompson Boxing Promotions injects some new life into the boxing scene when a fight card featuring Jose “El Nino” Reynoso (13-3-1, 2 KO’s) a native of Mexicali vs veteran Santos Pakau (27-6-2, 10 KO’s) of New Zealand in an eight round junior welterweight main event bout, while the co-main pits unbeaten Efrain Esquivias, Jr. (11-0, 7 KO’s) against Nichol in a super bantamweight clash.
Both Esquivias and Nichol had stellar amateur careers with Esquivias having won all five of his last fights as a professional (in 2010) in convincing fashion, while Nichol has struggled to find an opponent only fighting twice in 2010.
The last two Esquivias opponents Ephraim Martinez (4-1) and Vincent Alfaro (4-1) were undefeated until stepping in with Esquival who stopped both of the prospects in the fifth round by way of TKO at the same Doubletree Hotel.
This Esquivias vs Nichol battle should have fans excited leading into the main event as Nichol has never been afraid to leave the comforts of Denver to “take his show on the road” in search of opponents.
Having recently spent an entire week training at the Freddie Roachs’ Wild Card Gym in California, Shawn and his dad Steve Nichol feel the time has come for all in the bantamweight division to be aware of his presence.
“It’s been tough for me to find a guy willing to fight me in Colorado, so I decided to take this fight, against a guy who is a huge fan favorite at the Doubletree, and give him his first “L” (loss) this Friday night. I’m hoping my son either comes real soon, or waits until Saturday morning to get here”, said the both confident, and concerned Shawn “Bones” Nichol.
Esquivias has the perfect style for Nichol to attack, as most fear Nichols’ power and elect to box and stay away for the duration of their match with the fans regularly booing his counterpart in the ring.
Esquivias has not been forced to retreat, or box and stay away from any opponent…until this coming Friday night.
Now that “King Louie” Byrd has seen daughter Amilla Lee Byrd make her entrance, it’s time for Shawn “Bones” Nichol to enjoy the same entrance of his son either before or after he heads to California for his fight this Friday night.
There are no two happier boxers in Denver today than Shawn “Bones” Nichol and “King Louie” Byrd, who both will dig even deeper with a new purpose, their role of being fathers’, as big a challenge as they’ll ever face.
Stephen Blea (Denver): “Congratulations to Louie Bryd and his family on the arrival of his daughter Amilla Lee Byrd. For Louie it’s a special time, but as all of us grandpa’s know, it’s just as special for us”.
C.C. Edwards (Denver): “Way to go Louie! Now you have a new focus. Little Amilla Lee will have you even more determined, which is a scary thought”.
Aurelio Martinez (Denver): “Congratulations Louie and your family on the arrival of your daughter. Shawn, you just be patient. Go out there to California and handle your business. Your son will wait until you get back before making his entrance”.
