You really never know who you work for!
The scandalous and insulting language used by three British comedians from the BBC referring to Mexico and the Mexican people has the Mexican community in Metro Detroit up in arms! However, thanks precisely to the comedians foul language, we were able to find out about the newest Mexican export product: Their first 100% Mexican car. The Mastretta MXT, completely designed and built in Mexico.
This sleek and elegant coupé is a product of Daniel Mastretta’s extensive experience. Daniel, who has a degree in industrial design, and over 25 years in the automotive industry — both as consultant and designer — has developed 17 different models of city and intercity buses with different capacities and configurations; and in 1987, he and his brother Carlos opened their company Mastretta Tecnoidea in Mexico City.
Back in July 2008, the brothers presented their new prototype at the British International Motorshow in London, England. The Mastretta MXT took the audience by surprise: “Mexico might not be an obvious automotive powerhouse, but the Mastretta brothers are hoping to change that with their MXT two-seater, mid-engined coupé”, said Kyle Fortune, Director of The Car Enthusiast Editorial Agency in England.
During the event, Daniel Mastretta declared: “We needed to create a great car because Mexico has no tradition of sophisticated sports car manufacturing… It is most important that our customers are delighted with the new MXT”. By the end of the show, the Mastretta MXT was among the Top 10 Supercars of the event.
The Mastretta MXT is a high-performance two seat sports car, powered by a turbocharged Ford Cosworth 2.0 liter Duratec four-cylinder engine. The Mastretta brothers used aircraft techniques to build the chassis, and to sculpt the body in fiberglass, they used a closed mold technique to make the car as light as possible. The Mastretta MXT can spring from 0 to 60mph in less than 5 seconds.
On November 19th, 2010, the Mastretta website announced the Launch Edition Series of the Mastretta MXT, which will consist of a limited edition of 30 units. These cars will show the name of the owner, and will be customized in color, wheels, calipers, and interiors, as to the wish of the buyer. Production and delivery will cover from April to August 2011
Today, we must thank the British comedians. Thanks to the uproar they created among their 350 million viewers around the world with their lewd, racial comments, even the House of Commons in the Houses of Parliament in London now knows about the Mastretta MXT — and of its partnership with Michigan, through the use of a Ford engine.
