At 7 o’clock Lee Higgins, who fights out of Urban Jungle in Houston, walked down the aisle into the arena. He talked to his cornermen, and climbed into the cage. He skipped around the cage, pushed his back up against the fence a few times, and walked out of the cage.
In a few hours he will come out and wait for Ryan Couture to come in and fight. Seeing him do his walkthrough, he looked confident and relaxed. He stopped by to chat for a second, and confident and relaxed are exactly the words to describe his prefight demeanor. “I am feeling awesome right now. Really great,” Higgins said. “I’m more nervous the night before. I’m not nervous right now standing here. I have fought this fight so many times in my head. There is nothing else I can learn between now and when the fight starts. I can’t go improve my cardio between now and then. I can’t improve. It is what it is now. I just have to go out there and fight.”
While his opponent has a big name, Higgins feels it isn’t neccesarily one that he has earned on his own merits. “I’m not fighting Randy Couture, I’m fighting Ryan. There is a pretty big difference there. We are both really young in our careers. We have had roughly the same amount of amateur fights. He isn’t going to do anything to me that I haven’t seen before. I am just tired of hearing about it. This is a great opportunity for me, I realize that, but I am not fighting a former UFC champion. I’m just fighting a guy who is 1-0 as a pro.”
