Let’s Dance For Our Future is a grand fundraising affair centered on our community, our kids and a cause. It’s about providing positive influences for a youth in need. It’s about actualizing their potential. But it’s mostly about the future. Their future and our future. The two are entwined, and one day they will collide. On that tomorrow, the youth of today will be the ones to determine our future. LULAC’s National Education Services Center recognized this truth, and the MODEL Mentoring Program is the resulting progeny of the union between present and future.
Greiner Middle School in Oak Cliff, home of the Exploratory Arts Academy, was one of several schools selected by the LNESC to benefit from the MODEL Mentoring Program. Although the program proved to be a success, budget constraints led to the closure of all MODEL Mentoring facilities on September 30, 2010. News of the lack of funding came as a discouraging blow to all involved. The principal figures behind the program at Greiner, however, saw opportunity rather than defeat. Since October 2010 they have set out to keep the MODEL Mentoring Program alive through private funding. Read more about the journey leading up to Let’s Dance For Our Future here.
