Who really believes in the term “5-minute face?” Realistically, it’s impossible for even the speediest of hands to do an entire face in five minutes, but there are some features you can smarten and sharpen to make it look like you’ve spent more time than you really have getting prettied up. For the quickest way to cheat a full face, think “Lips ‘n’ Lashes.”
Women do their makeup on the subway all the time—a feat of the modern world not to be taken lightly—because active and working gals need to prioritize, need to save time whenever possible. A New York minute is the fastest in the world; why waste any of it?
Four items will suffice for instant feminization. And you won’t have be forced to apply them on the Shuttle to Times Square, (although you could!) because you didn’t have time before you left the apartment. If you’ve been blessed with fabulous skin, or long, naturally curly lashes, (lucky you!) you can skimp on a step, and knock your total down to three. Talk about a light makeup bag!
Item 1: Eyelash curler
To really make your eyes stand out, and your lashes fringe-y and dramatic, you need to use a curler. Its lift and curl makes them visible against your eyelids. All it takes is a few seconds for each eye, and you’ve set the stage for high impact mascara.
Item 2: Mascara
It’s time to bring out the big guns. Volumizing, lengthening, black or brown, it doesn’t matter: a solid coating of mascara holds the coveted power to “bring out your eyes.” Apply two coats in rapid succession after you’ve used your curler, and watch as your eyes look lined, and more made up than they really are.
Item 3: Tinted lip gloss
Lips need a little color, but not so much that it seems all the pigment on your face went to your lips—you want to balance the eye, not overpower the look and wash out your face. As with the mascara, your favorite gloss will do. You’ll have to apply more, but most glosses won’t dry out your lips like traditional lipstick does.
Item 4: Pressed powder
Make lips ‘n’ lashes pop even more by providing a smooth, even canvas for them to stand out against. A semi-sheer or medium coverage compact can be applied in half a minute. The formula won’t be thick enough or pigmented enough to need serious blending, just enough to smooth texture, and camouflage redness and minor blemishes.
Toss your “kit” into your purse for a quick refresher any time during the day. Ba-da-bing, ba-da-boom: four steps in under five minutes, and you’re done.
